What happened to Retsupurae?

There's specific Let's Play I've been trying to find an archive of to no success. It was Mr. DJB and another dude Let's Playing a troll game called Sonic Inflation Adventure. DJB removed all his videos because of troll remorse and/or watching his girlfriend getting fucked by other dudes. It was seriously one of the funniest Let's Play I've ever seen.

It's an absolute shame that pretty much everyone associated with Retsuprae went crazy or became incredibly unfunny.
Ah damn that's a shame, I was actually recently thinking about that video recently! It wasn't on the retsupurae channel but DJB was a goon and that particular video felt like a newgrounds wrongpurae. If it actually was taken down I'm surprised, because it clearly was a parody game that the creator joined the commentary on for the second or third episode. As far as ruse cruises go it was very entertaining

Something I've always wondered as a non-American: where does ChipCheezum's accent come from? I always assumed he moved to America as a kid or something but I recently watched a walkthrough and the guy sounds just like an older chip (to me). So can American Kiwis tell me what the accent is?

I'm pretty sure ChipCheezum grew up in, or around, Illinois, so he's rolling around with a midwestern accent.

I didn't hear the whole thing, because I can't adjust my volume to hear the guy without slowbeef destroying my eardrums. Plus, every time the guy was about to explain his idea, Diabetus would start wittering over him and I got frustrated.
You can watch the original video on the kickstarter page.

Amongst all the incoherent technobabble, the most amazing thing is that he really seems to believe that binary was designed for 2d graphics and is now hampering the development of 3d graphics.

He has about a dozen other kickstarters and they are all great. But my favourite is no doubt this one where he is asking for 50.000 dollars to write a book about drawing locks.

I got curious and looked up what the cage hat guy has been up to. He has several unsuccessful cage/bubble hat kickstarters and currently has 23 days to raise 100.000 dollars for some kind of amphibious vehicle which I can't really see because obnoxious text is covering the video.

Thank you for this. I wondered where they were watching it. From the description:

Story

Many times I have thought that to myself that computers would work better if you could just "add a two" in binary code. Because of advances in technology, it is now possible to do even more than that. My name is John Jenkins and my invention is called Busco Quadnary. This difference between my invention and traditional binary is that you can program in four dimensions right out of the box. This has tremendous implications for 3d graphics and gaming. Today, we use what are called Z-buffers to simulate 3 dimensions. With the use of 3d engines, games are able to deliver a quality approximation. What would make this simulation even better, however, would be if we could allow four dimensions to be built into the computer, at the machine language level. This is what I plan to do.

Risks and challenges

As my bio suggests, I am not an accomplished programmer, but programming follows very understandable conventions which can be employed, such as Strings, Characters, Variables and Constants. I can never memorize an entire language, but I can be accurate. I can't code a thousand lines at once, but I can use tried-and-true methods to arrive at my goal, sort of like editing a video or animating in 3d.
Is it me or does the guy type like DSP? I can't tell if he's a grifter or legitimately incompetent.

MagaKnight404, the "Linoan Guy," is still making videos, with the same avatar, no less. I remember seeing a video of his where he talks openly about making those romhacks but now I can't find it :( I just remember that someone mentioned the Linoan supports and he replied, "There are some things time won't let you forget."

I think I remember one of them saying something like how it's harder to find let's plays that are uniquely bad nowadays. They've made fun of camcorder lps, bad audio, poor gameplay ect. But with better technology nowadays those things are getting rarer. It's easier to record straight from your device than it used to be, so no more pointing your camera at the screen to record. And even if you can find someone doing that, they've made fun of that so many times already, would it really be funny again for the upteenth time?
Sorry to necro, but I rewatched some of my downloaded retsupurae videos and.. I can't recall exactly which one this one (it might've been "A Public Service Announcement From Your Pals at Retsupurae") but there was one where they directly discuss another factor: People started becoming aware of their existence and actually specifically targeting them.

And I don't mean for harassment... I mean stuff like they would make intentionally bad lets plays for the sake of getting riffed. Two videos I have actually had them getting pretty far before the shoe dropped and Slowbeef had to apologize to the others and say he did NOT know they were troll videos.

It's kind of the statement on the problem with most art, especially the kind that exists as a reaction to other art. I'm given to understand that Mystery Science Theater 3000 also helped bring about the "bad on purpose" school of filmmaking.

Massive necro bump but I revisited retsupurae about a month or two ago and was happy to find new content I'd glossed over, but ultimately left wondering what really happened.

It was nice and informative to read a thread with other people speculating. I do remember them slowly becoming more tame, but it makes more sense now.

Huh, this is news to me.

Glad this got necro'd...

One thing I was amused and somewhat heartwarmed to find out is that another Retsupurae legend wound up having a decent-ish run on Youtube. Mr Never Needs to Stop to Breath aka Cornshaq.

Funny thing is I found his channel by complete accident. I was looking up info about a game I played as a kid (Dash Galaxy in the Alien Asylum) and he was one of the first people who came up in a search. For me it was a moment very similar to when Phelous discovered his first Bootleg Zones video had connections to the Galaxy Hole, a franchise he would not cover until years later.... its like the universe is subtly hinting that some things are fore-ordained.

Thought I'd link these archives here in case anyone stumbles on this thread. I saw they deleted their "God hates poochyenas" episode just in the last year or 2, so I dug for some archives. This seems to be a pretty comprehensive one. The torrent doesn't seem up to date.

This one has a lot of their videos they deleted very early on, like ones with actual people. Has a good amount that aren't in the former link.

Suprisingly, there's alot of people who are still in the lp business even 15 years on. Depressed Sean Connery stand in BikdiponaBus for example does LPs for cash with his, from what i can gather, transexual GF.

Now I wonder something:

One of their kicksarter Nonstarter videos was for a (fan-made?) remake of a flash game called Arrival in Hell.

Here be the video.

I find myself wondering if this project actually got funding, considering Retuspurae basically wound up endorsing it. And if so, did an actual game come out of it?

For that matter I find myself wondering what happened to the flash game makers they riffed, like Michael Gibson of the infamous Ambition series.

Someone in the comments said that Gibson posted in facebook that he wanted to reunite with nature or something like that. But let's be honest, he used that excuse as the "Because I am a Terrorist" line was impossible to surpass.

We need a Gibson Renaissance. How else will our children learn life lessons through the use of flash animation like lightly changing your voice while talking about the percentile chances of a goat being behind a specific door and how you shouldn't look at breasts while a mouse and your boss yell at you.

If we do not get our Gibson Renaissanse I will blow us all to thell!
Because I am a terrorist!
I want to have a grotty pissed stained Renaissance if the Arrival in hell dev ever makes a new game after that failed kickstarter.

Confirming what we already knew 6 years ago, and probably for the best

Between beef's TDS and troll remorse, on top of the current state of youtube, I understand why the channel was abandoned. I'll just keep pretending that Jack Orlando was the hail Mary of retsu before this psa and keep watching their deep fear riff as a yearly tradition

Necro'ing your comment to add that MageKnight404 (the dude from the pokemon LP doing Hilda's voice), still do regular uploads to this day
