Stickers effectively eliminate a lot of "Yes," "you're right" or "nah, that's dumb" (edit: or "TMI") posts while providing a good way of highlighting good, interesting, infortmative or particularly dumb or horrifying posts (as used in the highlight feature).

The problem is the stickers gamify things, and gamification is one of the worst things about social media because you get a dopamine hit from all those little red 1's next to your bell that appear for every little sticker.

That's untrue. This site is about gossips and humor. We talk about things that are publicly available. We joke around. Harmless eccentrics that are discussed here are rarely get real vitriol and many users feel for them. See for reference.
Actual anger over people of interest is strongly discouraged and may result in a ban.
People who get actual vitriol here are usually bad people - animal abusers, pedos, groomers, sex offenders, criminals.

There are users here who are autistic and they are as welcome as anybody else, so you're not that unique here.
Contacting people of interest and provoking them is against the rules and results in a ban.
The worst that can happen is someone archiving publicly available information (social media posts, pictures, videos) and reposting them here. If someone decides to register to the site they become an user and can discuss with other users who - due to strong emphasis on freedom of speech here - can be mean to them. If someone dislikes this community they can always leave.

I actually quite like this place. Freedom of speech and expression, twisted humor, actual diversity of worldviews, rather forgiving moderation... it's like a time machine back to the Internet of the late 90s.

I'm always polite to the people of interest who decide to register here, even individuals such as Tommy Tooter who's by no means a good person. The other way around, not so much...
