Fantastic and informative post on the history of the Korps. I'm not entirely surprised that it had very mundane beginnings. What's most surprising is that their old history of actually being evil was sanitized. Did you find any nuggets of info on what actual acts of evil they committed? Genocides? Hostage murders? Torture? I'm curious as to what they considered to be too much, since the bar is already set at ankle height because of twitter. Kind of amazed they even get away with what they do now, since anti militarism and anti cop sentiments are so unanimous among their crowd.
It was less actual well-described shit and more... you know, off-screen hollywood super-villainy. There's really nothing very specific, from what I could get my hands on.

Anyway, since we're talking about the early days of the Korps, why not follow-up on a small assortment of people who were in contact with the illustrious Mr. Dave Sr. before the whole troonout? With special thanks to @Nothing To See Here, @Fetish Roulette and @Emperor Percival Tachyon, here's what I like to call...

the Bullet Dodgers' Club

If you go to DeviantArt and look through Dave Sr.'s account, or search for "kraken korps", you see a few artists being mentioned, tagged, or commenting on Korps-related submissions at around the time of the inception of the original Korps. As far as our research can tell us they all, for one reason or another, drifted away from the project before or in 2008. Here's a small, semi-random selection of souls who probably look on today's Korps and ask themselves "where did it all go wrong?".

Disclaimer:
T
his is a write-up meant to illustrate how more-or-less "normal" the OG Korps was and how varied the people who contributed to it were. None of these people, as far as we can tell, have any association with the current troon-cult version of the Korps. They interacted and/or contributed to the original roleplay setting, and that's all.
There was no way they could know that goofy supervillain roleplay they once contributed to would turn into a tranny grooming organization fifteen years later.
That's why their dox is not being published. (Not that they were hard to find.)
Do not be faggots: don't harrass them.

As @Emperor Percival Tachyon's post illustrates, this guy can be described in four words: fully-engorged Soviet fetish. With a side of lizards and pencil drawings. Most of the early Korps artwork that presented them as a military force complete with commissars seems to have been drawn by this guy. He didn't seem to be very political, either. He just really liked Soviet aesthetics.
Where are they now?
He moved to FurAffinity and is still drawing lizards. The Soviet stylings were probably just a phase. His gallery is almost 100% SFW cartoon animals now. Zero connection to the Korps.

Javkiller

Not much to be said about this one. He drew a few pieces, was in friendly terms with Dave Sr. (the striped dragon girl in Tachyon's post is the female version of his avatar), then wandered off to do his own thing.
Where are they now?
Successful furry porn artist. His DeviantArt was almost completely wiped at some point, and his FA starts in 2010, but it can be safely assumed he spent some time in the My Little Pony fandom. Not much more to be said about him. There's just a lot of furry porn in his FA gallery. From a quick scan he doesn't seem to cater to the Korps' usual kinks in particular, though. He draws cyborgs fairly often as commissions, but it all blends into the background noise of gay porn and bog-standard, non-brainwashed big-titted furry dickgirls. There may still be Korps-themed pictures or commissions somewhere in his gallery, but they would not be recent.

Another pretty generic one. He's the one who came up with the "robots/androids/cyborgs/whatever on the moon" division of the OG Korps. He may have been underage (16 or 17) at the inception of the Korps, but since there didn't seem to be much publicly published Korps-themed porn at the time (mostly erotica passed as "propaganda" and "motivation") it was probably not a big deal.
Where are they now?
Middling furry artist, possibly a recovering porn artist. Went through an edgy phase on DeviantArt post-Korps, then switched usernames, hopped to FurAffinity and... left to DeviantArt again fairly recently after closing shop on FA. There is good amount of porn by him floating online, but contrary to Javkiller his output for the past couple of years is much tamer. He also draws a lot of cyborgs, but much like Javkiller there's no indication of a mind control kink. His featured image on DeviantArt is his own take on a Strype/Dave Jr. picture, but with a human character.

JeiCole

A rare Pepe: a natal female among furries. Had a female ninja character in the Korps and may have had something to do with the whole Vixen Corps thing (that's speculation based on sparse information). Dave Sr. seemed to have the hots for her at some point.
Where are they now?
Dropped off the internet in 2008 without leaving a forwarding address.

Lady-Nightmare

https://www.deviantart.com/lady-nightmare (abandoned since 2008 )
https://www.deviantart.com/scribblecloud (last submission in September 2020)

Another natal female. This is likely the most normie of the bunch. Dave Sr. was in contact with her and did some simultaneous/collaborative drawing with her using an early version of OpenCanvas (a popular art program at the time that boasted a networked drawing option similar to Drawpile). There are a couple references to her sprinkled about, and one or two OpenCanvas pictures, but that's about it.
Where are they now?
Non-furry artist. Still drawing, although she doesn't seem to do it professionally or take commissions. She's always seemed to be more interested in anime, with furries as a phase. No obvious kinks, zero connection to the Korps.

MaestroMorte

This one is fun. This guy draws a lot of creepy shit. Like, real ugly 90s 'zine material in pen and ink. Eerily reminiscent of some old Tim Burton works, or that old furry webcomic, Jack. Another one who drew a couple Korps-themed things, talked to Dave Sr., orbited and commented a bit, then moved on.
Where are they now?
Still drawing exactly the same things, exactly the same way 15 years later. You've got to admire the guy's consistency. Again, no NSFW content (thank God), just creepy shit, and zero connection to the Korps.

So, what does this little selection of people tell us? Two things:

First, that, as the title says, they dodged a few bullets by distancing themselves from Dave Sr. before it all went to shit. The ones that are still active and could be tracked don't seem to have trooned out. Even the one who's neck-deep in furry porn to this day is lightyears more productive than Strype ever was. They also show that the original Korps was broader in scope and themes than what it is now.

Second: this reinforces the current theory that the Korps effectively became an one-man show with Dave Sr. in his Furaffinity account, with only a few minor hangers-on until he decided to go all-in on the mind-control fetish and subsequent trooning out. 2008 to 2012 must have been really lonely, mental illness-inducing years for the guy. All we're missing now is the story of how Daves Sr. and Jr. found each other.

It's just this with all the armor bits replaced with ninja shit, and the flame decals are just tattoos now. And it has a mop of hair.

AKA one of the most reliable ways to get the farms off of your ass is to stop doing whatever got our attention in the first place; and given that idiots like these have made their bullshit fetish into their lifestyle, it's going to be hard for them to pull back. Going underground and locking only does so much before someone in the circle gets pissy and dumps screenshots for us all to laugh at.

more fetish art from strype

Though the thread so far has been largely focused on their current lol-worthy incarnation, the history of the Korps actually goes quite a bit deeper. Deeper, though surprisingly NOT more degenerate. Quite the opposite in fact, the genesis of today's Korps is a story of one man's generic furry RP universe slowly becoming more and more focused around his (and his orbiters') own fetishes, rather than any kind of interesting story or worldbuilding. The Korps we see today is not the original one created by Dave, but a trooned out Nu-Korps focused more on it's members public expression of gross kinky bullshit than anything else.

All in all, it's kind of sad to see how the Korps went from a relatively innocent (if a bit cringy) roleplay setting made by some college kid on a furry comic forum to a tranny brainwashing fetish cult populated by creepy men in dresses and diapers.

Much of the old content from the original version was lost to a forum being deleted (read on for details) but at the end of this post I'll attatch some links to Dave's old deviantart gallery and posts that do in fact corroborate this timeline of events. I'm a stickler for archives and an undeniable trail the cow can't cover up, while there may not be as much archived as I'd like, there's still no way I was going to post this as a wall of text alone.

Special thanks for the research that went into this post goes to @Nothing To See Here @Fetish Roulette @Sharklaser and @Corn Flakes

Origins: the Kraken, his Korps, and Karen

Despite the bluster and bombast of its current members, the Korps' origins are very mundane. The organization's first iteration can be traced back to the early 00s, starting out as part of the fandom for a webcomic called Altermeta, and its featured species, the Kuvrahks. The webcomic went through multiple iterations, hiatuses and delays, courtesy of its author's frequent breakdowns. Unfortunately, documentation and archives from this period are very sparse as even the Wayback Machine holds no captures earlier than January, 2007.

Most people involved in the Altermeta fandom created characters belonging to the comics' main species, the "Kuvrahks", or "Kuvvies". If you look at the early [Kraken] Korps fanart, you'll see an abundance of dragons with frilled ears. These are Kuvrahks.

Altermeta's creator was an early troon by name of Noben. Due to Noben's constant schedule slips and occasional reworks of the comic, AM's fandom eventually disintegrated. Many people in fandom, upon its implosion, did the standard furry "original OC donut steel" thing and tweaked their characters to slightly differentiate them from Kuvrahks. Apparently, Altermeta's creator did not approve of porn of the species at the time.

In Dave Sr.'s case, he added small horns to his Kuvrahks and called it a day.

Altermeta's second iteration seems to have stalled, and its forums are dead. Dave Sr. still has an account there but hasn't posted since 2013. The current iteration of the Korps has no relation to this dead fandom.

Dave Sr., going by the username "Kraken" at the time, was a member of the Altermeta forums' first iteration. At some point in early '05, he announced the formation of the "Kraken Korps", as a roleplay setting and a general collaborative creative project. The basic gimmick for the project was similar to the current one: James Bond-style supervillains doing supervillain things, but the sexual undertones hadn't been fully implemented yet and it wasn't as LARP-y as it would later become. Erotic images were explained as "propaganda" and publicly posted porn was uncommon (read the note in the spoilers). Much like present day, members would create divisions within the Kraken Korps in order to tell their own supervillain stories, although these seem to be more independent than today's divisions.

The bar for entry was basically non-existent. Dave Sr. retained loose general control over the setting, with members sometimes consulting him for approval of general concepts before fleshing out the details themselves. From research on Deviantart, at least one of these early Kraken Korps divisions had a research base on the moon crewed by robots/androids, and another one featured draconic supersoldiers rescued by the Kraken Korps and incorporated into their fold. There was also a "propaganda division" (likely just assorted artists), an all-female "special forces" division, and likely a few others that went unrecorded. It's no surprise that the tone and concept for the organization were all over the place. They were at the same time a powerful Soviet-style paramilitary organization dripping with cheesy propaganda, and a shadowy SPECTRE or HYDRA-like crime syndicate with sinister agents and hidden facilities across the globe (and seemingly also space).

Even at its peak, the whole project was very small, with 10-20 people interacting with (or likely aware of) it at any given time. It was, after all, a fan project within the fandom of an obscure and seldom-updated 00's comic, carried out by amateur artists and writers without any high-profile members. It's very likely most people who didn't keep up with Dave Sr.'s furaffinity account, where he allowed his degeneracy to come into full bloom free from deviantart's restrictions on adult content, would have completely forgotten about it in the intervening years. It's possible that some of his followers and hangers-on from that time have made it through to the current incarnation of the Korps, but it's difficult to tell for certain.

Despite rumors, the initial aesthetic for the setting was not far-right, or even right-leaning at all. Though I will note that due to things posted in this thread there is some evidence to suggest that their group was attracting some degree of right-wing members at some point before incoherent twitter leftism and gender politics became the unquestioned belifs of the group (and any such right wingers were subsequently purged). It does however, pretty much disprove early speculation in this thread that they might have been outright alt-furs or nazi-furs at one point.

The old Korps content wasn't memory holed for being "right wing". What they were was actual menacing villains within the context of the roleplay world. The old aesthetic had to be stripped out because these people are so far gone that depictions of actual evil were no longer allowed in their villain roleplay, lest it be deemed problematic... Compare this to their modern incarnation's ideology, where they loudly and proudly proclaim that "acktually, the villains are the REAL good guys" because the "good guys" of the world are now just "oppressive" and "fascist" (using the wild, made up definitions of those terms of course) And let's not forget the fact that the sexual degeneracy aspect has also vastly eclipsed any semblance of sensible worldbuilding or roleplay storytelling. The whole Korps "setting" is at this point, little more than a backdrop for their fetishes

Dave Sr. has always jerked off to Soviet-style aesthetics, and the stated "goals" of the original Kraken Korps were surprisingly neutral in the left-right axis: world domination under Kraken's leadership. Some of the more militaristic art created for the Kraken Korps included an early "KK" logo that looked suspiciously like the "SS" rune (which was quickly replaced by an early version of the familiar helix logo), and some of the artists collaborating to the project used both Soviet Russian and Nazi German inspirations to their designs. But this was 2005-2008, the alt-right didn't exist yet, the internet was slightly less politicized, and people could still use these elements ironically in fiction. Dave Sr.'s own drawings remained firmly within planted in Soviet and HYDRA-style aesthetics, and a fetish for uniforms. (see the end of this post for examples)

As harmless as this initial iteration of the Korps was, there were a handful of things that foreshadowed Dave Sr.'s later developments. For instance:

  • Dave Sr.'s avatar in this setting was the supervillain mad scientist named "Kraken", AKA "Dean de Vasco". But Dave Sr. very quickly created a genderbent clone of this character, named... Karen. She gradually took over as the character most depicted as Dave's avatar in art.
  • Karen's entire concept and personality could be summed up as a femme fatale. On, in more words, "voluptuous woman with big tits and a libido to match". There was some in-universe justification for it, but the upshot was that the character was made for furry roleplay, pin-up and porn purposes. In-universe, she headed the Kraken Korps' all-female "vixen" special forces division.
  • The Korps' helix symbol existed before Karen, but given it also featured as part of her markings it became more preeminent and common after her creation.
  • Dave Sr.'s habit of drawing with pencil and ballpoint was already there, as was his usual subject matter of well-endowed ladies in skin-tight "tactical" catsuits, possibly pregnant. Likewise, he also seemed to already have a taste for dickgirls at the time.
  • There are indications that his mind-control/brainwashing fetish may have started during this period, but it wasn't publicly obvious.
Despite these red flags, people who were in contact with him at the time report that he was a fairly normal guy in his early 20s, with real-life friends, a taste for paintballing, and working occasional menial jobs to supplement his income while in college.

Dave Sr.'s output drops precipitously in late 2007/early 2008 (coincident with his graduation) and the narrative becomes somewhat hazy after 2009. It's likely that, after graduating in 2007, he followed the standard furry coomer path of losing contact with friends, being too busy working in IT to make new friends, and becoming terminally online a a result. The Kraken Korps as a concept went mostly inactive as its original contributors wandered off, until repurposed into its current transgender/pregnancy brainwashing cult incarnation in the 2010s.

An important note for LGBT readers: while the Korps are overwhelming LGBT-positive now, at their inception Dave Sr. identified as straight (at most jailhouse bisexual like most furries), the vast majority of the contributors at the start were cisgender and most were heterosexual. Characters that would be considered "transgender" now existed only as alternate versions of established female characters, referred to as "dickgirls", and their only purpose was to serve as kink subjects. Their transgender "advocacy" is a more recent development, cynically born out of their founder's trooning out and subsequent need for control and kink validation. He has stated as such, that the Korps were reworked as a way to provide validation.

And finally, like I said I would at the beginning of this wall of text, here are a few choice bits artistic output from the oldest iteration of the Korps that you should now be more familiar with.

This isn't Dave, or any of the regular artists I noticed doing their art back then but it shows that they had something of a following who wanted to be in their RP. Someone made their OC fight against the Korps in the roleplay setting and posted stuff about it on DeviantARt.

Here is some art drawn by the artist mentioned inthe image above, CommissarKinyaf, one of their early artists who was definitely part of their first Korps "in-group" of that era.

As you can see, the old Korps had a rather militaristic vibe back then, in stark contrast to the modern, fetish focused version. This one also rather conspicuously shows the oldest logo they used, the "KK" on the sleeve.

That's all I care to archive and post for now, but the live link to this old deviantart page is there if you care to give it a browse. It's mostly art of the same quality. The modern Korps with all the fetish baggage (Not counting generic furry fanservice, that shit's tame compared to what would come later) doesn't make an appearance on this account, but it does show up on his Furaffinity later on.
My concurrent question would mainly be the following, who would have groomed him into making the entire korps thing rebranded and re-established as weird fetish tranny stuff? I mean we know he was definetly made terminally online and soon trooned out but my main question is who? overall this art semi reminds me of a dude named "wolfjedisamuel" a bit both in its uniform fetishising and the early aesthetic (mr wolf tended to over exagerate breasts and ass a whole lot more for fetish reasons).

My concurrent question would mainly be the following, who would have groomed him into making the entire korps thing rebranded and re-established as weird fetish tranny stuff?
Furries groom just about anyone who gives them the time of day, so often that it's a subconscious instinct. It's a tale as old as time, dragging people down into that darkness so they have more people that may find their hobby similarly interesting. Trannies are similar in that misery loves company, and that spirals into the crabs-in-a-bucket situation where you must suffer peer-induced dysphoria and not be happy with yourself as you are because they sure as hell aren't and they'll be damned if they let anyone back out.
Really it could have been anyone, like searching for a needle in a stack of needles, and short of chatlogs being dumped that may or may not be restricted to either singular party, it will likely be impossible to find.

What would make it easier is narrowing it down by when specifically he made the change and who was in his friend circle at that time. Though there's always the chance he just had the idea out of nowhere due to a lack of attention online or similar.
