General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Listening to Coco singing and I'm having a bit of an existential crisis.
Why DO I like this?
I don't know if I'm just being a retard and those people saying VTubers are just twitch whores with anime avatars are right, or there is a part of me that wasn't destroyed by a depressive cynicism that can actually let go and enjoy things.
Guess I'll have to

just enjoy.

thanks for reading my blog, here's a cute gura wearing a hat as a reward.

On the subject of crazy gachikoi and stalkers, I do find it interesting that no one, especially not the Rosetai, ever flips out publicly about Aki doing in-person collabs with a guy.
I think that's just it, though... precedent.

If a gachi newly discovers a talent and finds that they already collab with men regularly, the gachi can move on before getting too invested in a parasocial relationship. On the other hand, if he's spent a year building up a delusional image that his oshi has never seen or heard of a penis, taking out loans to send her red SCs, etc, and suddenly hears a male voice in the background - that's when his fragile brain cracks.

Unfortunately, it may be true that a VTuber, especially Hololive, choosing to strenuously avoid mentions of any men in their lives (thereby appealing to parasocials/gachis), directly results in higher revenues. But one has to wonder, especially after this info coming out regarding Lulu, whether it's really worth the risk.

I didn't want to include this in the Lulu graduation post so here's the next chapter in Mayuyu's deep lore. Consider it your side dish entertainment since ever since Coco's graduation announcement, and I know it's a big deal, this thread had been doom and gloom all the time.

It mostly a setup stream where he talked about the disappearance of his teacher (after people voted into it). He then has some interesting monologues that I'll spare you the autism of while counting down the end of the vote he had going on his twitter. Mayuzumi Kai will either be sent out to the real world or be rebuilt in the virtual world.

Untitled2.png
Untitled.png

Thanos is proud. I don't know if it's actually the combine effort of 50 thousands people or he used some bot, but the results is perfectly even. If he didn't meddle in the poll then the next part is purely ad libbed and he was able to get incredibly emotional without a moment notice. Everyone knows it was acting but it was such a contrast from the usual Mayuzumi that people got taken by it. No wonder this man lives like a king doing nothing but selling voice pack every month.

He didn't see it as "everyone couldn't decide", but rather everyone "leave the decision to himself". It's not a black or white decision but grey (Mayuzumi name is written like this, 灰, it reads as Kai but means Ash / the color grey. He then realizes that "this side" or "that side" of the screen, "virtual" and "real" doesn't matter. Even if he is "virtual", he had been thinking, being happy, getting angry. Those emotions are without a doubt real feeling that "Mayuzumi Kai" felt, not manufactured. He was troubled by the fact that he is on a different screen to the people watching in and yearns for that side, but now he realizes the side with the children and orphanage was reality for him.

He declares that even if people from the other side called him "virtual", "character", "avatar" or "roleplay", he exists in this world as nobody but himself, what drives him is his own will, his soul not "the people who laughing while writing a bad script." His soul exists and it's here. It was an incredible moment, everyone thought that this was the moment of his self actualization, the happy ending for Mayuzumi Kai that every listeners wanted.

Then credit rolls.

Untitled3.png

Actual credit rolls, like when a movie ended. Like it's making a mockery of his previous resolution, that his realization and declaration was still nothing but an act performed for the audiences enjoyment. The comments reinforced this idea as well.

He is scheduled to have another stream titled True End 3 but it was unlisted and the screen still showing an image of a grey sky with rainbow (niji) across it. It's 3 hours past schedule so it's unlikely that he simply late / forgot about it / respecting Lulu's graduation but this is simply another setup for the next plot development. The destination is unknown, it's uncertain that it will be written by production or Mayuzumi himself but you can be sure the story of Mayuzumi Kai haven't ended yet.

Welp it's official. Gura is the #1 most subscribed to VTuber, making her the most popular VTuber in the world.
It's a big milestone worth celebration. Everyone does it when they reached the goal they set for themselves. I'm happy for Gura, but there are ways of celebrating without putting down Kizuna Ai of all people. As a side note, she is far from the most popular in the world. Say it again after she owned a company for herself, countless TVs appearances and sponsorships, her character plastered in every train station subway or convenience store products, packing the stadium of her solo concert on her birthday and chosen as an official mascot for the olympic. Let me give you a spoiler right now. She never will. No one will be able to achieve the same popularity as Kizuna Ai. Because it's the culmination of 5 years of hard work of every single person involved, even the fans.
E5H8bjwX0AY3s0v.jpgE5H8cv3WQAIFe6i.jpg

Speaking of fans, today on her special day, she has a messages for all the numberfags out there: "Whether it was 1 million or 2 million, I treasure each and everyone as a single person, not a number." "It has been 5 years but there is still many first for me. My first steps are the one I took myself, but there had been many that you gave me". Her words, not mine. Make of that what you will. As for me, hearing the wisdom she puts into those two lines made me wanted to support her even further.

I wasn't putting down Kizuna. I said it myself last night and I'll say it again. Gura is VTuber Queen but Kizuna is VTuber Goddess.
"No one will be able to achieve the same popularity as Kizuna Ai." Let me be honest here, you're right. No one will ever reach the level of popularity Kizuna had at her peak. Of course not, because she was the first to do what she did, she was the first VTuber, she'd of course have s lot of eyes on her for basically starting a new industry, and she had no competition. But I'm not saying Gura is more popular now than Kizuna at her peak just because of more subs. I'm saying she's more popular than Kizuna is rn along with any other VTuber rn, key word is right now. At least that's how I see it, being from America and seeing people focusing much more on Gura than Kizuna or anyone else; and I think the subs/sub growth reflect this. I'm sure she's still very popular in Japan.
Happy birthday to Kizuna, she seems sweet. Congrats to all her accomplishments and I thank her for her contribution to the industry.

Domo being an unapologetic cunt to his sponsors, never liked this guy, that kinda just comes off as hugely unprofessional.
You know, my expectation of this guy was already very low, but this is even lower than that

Can someone who watches lulu stream that understand japanese confirm this.

Edit : some more information about lulu's stream

Translation from the Lulu discord that's being spread around. Take with a grain of salt if you want. "Letter of Challenge" is a slang term for Letters with death threats.

Her reason for graduating was because of a few insane stalkers/gachikois continued to harass her roommate even after the issues from February were dealt with.

Before people start on the "lmao Anycolor/Nijisanji said they'd protect their vtubers what happen?" Tribalist shit. They did what they could. It all just sucks.

Her general attitude and the fact she never really collabed with male livers outside of events built up insane faggot unicorn "SHE WILL BE MINE" gachikoi. She doesn't have to be a traditional idol to attract those kinds of scum.
I would've been sad but accepting if it really was just burnout from streaming but I just feel like I've been fucking robbed and now I'm pissed and sad.
The provided context of how Lulu has some stalker gachikois clears things up for me about her graduation. It kind of make sense now. Hopefully both Cover and Ichikara improved their security or something, I don't think Lulu is the only victims for things like, now and in the future

I can't imagine, however, the level of threat she received to the point it forced her to retirement. Is it on par with the level of Coco's antis? Or was it even much more worse since it involves physical objects like letters?
From what I understood reading the thread around when Mel had her case, it's not even about agency helping/not helping. It's about their weird ass laws that police's hands are tied unless something directly incriminating happens.
Fuck. Anytime a talent graduates I'm hopeful that it's them hopping on a higher branch. But so far it has been a big fat nope.
The Police can't do anything because their law stated so long as the stalker didn't actually do any harm or there's any concrete evidence, the stalker are pretty much innocent in the eyes of the law
We then circle back to the thing we discussed a few pages ago: how does Cover maintain its business model? The revenues they make from YT Membership cuts, SC cuts, merch cuts, ad deals, concerts etc would barely break even paying for their talents, their managers, middle managers and their developers. I think they're currently supported by these fellas:
https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/cover-corporation/company_financials
I don't know what HoloLive's overhead is like, but just their share of Coco's all-time SC revenue covers 10% of the investment capital. Having just one of the revenue streams from just one of the numerous talents (admittedly, the largest of such revenue streams), cover a noticeable chunk of the investment seems like a good position to be in. And I suspect that the Real Money for the investors comes from the advertising collabs like the Nissin Ramen commercial.
Now this is why I like this thread, the business side of things. However, mind you, since Cover didn't release their financial report, we won't know their financial situation right now. So far I noticed they're going to increase their sponsored streams with games and such, but I hope with Kanata and Towa singing for an anime/game would lead to more non-stream partnerships in the future

Which reminds me, by the way, how are they going to monetize Holo Alternative? I know they're going to use the twitter and their website as the main platform, but are they going publish the manga someday then?
If they really wanted to they can crack down on such crimes they can. Take what they did to Carlos Ghosn, former Chairman of Nissan (I think he still currently is the CEO for Renault). Under Japanese law, prosecutors can only detain you for X days after arrest but they just kept charging and re-arresting him for new crimes until they can find more evidence. Lulu's case is unfortunately just one of many over there, whether they're VTubers, non-VTuber streamers or common folk even.
Nah, the Ghosn thing only happened because he angered a bunch of wealthy and powerful suits. Of course the police would immediately go full force on him. Stalkers cases, however, are pretty much way too common, and with normal people as their victims. As i said before, so long as the stalkers behaved in a certain way, they're innocent. And they knew of this loophole, that's why stalker problems are still way too common in Japan (and in South Korea as well since they have similar rules about prosecuting stalkers)
Since there will be a mass of people offing themselves today and tomorrow (If you're both a Lulufag and Cocofag would you off yourself twice? How does that work?), here's a TLDR of the important points in Lulu's graduation stream.

  • Membership content is wiped at the moment of writing this. If you haven't learnt to archive then tough luck.
  • Normal content will remains for at least the next 6 months. There is possibility that certain past streams will be removed but a full wipe is unlikely.
  • Merch and voice sale stopped. Her marshmallow also closed but she will be accepting fan letters until the end of July.
  • She needs constant visit to the hospital so her conditions won't worsen. However, her physical conditions isn't the primary reason for her graduation.
  • As many have said, it's because she received threatening letter that lead to her hiatus. The police got involved and it got resolved. However, they wasn't able to deal with it completely and letters doesn't stop coming.
  • She considered other options, but chose to graduate out of her own will. Primary reasons being she doesn't want to make everyone worry about constant hiatus dealing with those threats while slowing her coworkers down with her circumstances.
  • She learnt to love herself through streaming, so she wants you to remembers her and be happy. Look at this in a more positive light instead of ending it on a sour note.
  • Even if the letters were the reason she graduates, she didn't graduate because she hates her listeners. Even in the end, she was happy that she was able to become a vtuber, and wished every vtuber, not just nijisanji, to do well from here on. She had nothing but gratitude for both talents and fans.
  • Finally, this is a formal request from Suzuhara Lulu. Do not bring up her name in other livers stream. If you ever feel sad or lonely, tweet using her hashtag. Her twitter activities will stop but she'll keep looking at those

Rough translation below.

I was clueless when I first debuted. I don't know anything from thumbnails, obs to chroma key. I'm really grateful for the listeners who watched over that me kindly. Now, my initial anxiety had gone, and I was able to do every thing that I wanted to do to the best of my abilities, thank you to everyone who always looks forward to it. I've grown to love the free chatting that I'm terrible with, thanks to everyone encouraging and supporting me. Every moments was truly precious and irreplaceable, Thank you for spending your valuable time on me. I wish that you will have more happy, wonderful moments from now on.
Thank you very much.
Damn, the membership contents wipeout is scary, honestly. There's barely even time for people to prepare and archive it. It really was quite sudden of a graduation

This also reminds me, by the way, who was here that tried to archive Coco's streams? Since it's only hours left until her last stream, how did the progress go?
One last ride with the whole crew.
Goddamnit, the thumbnail man....

I wasn't putting down Kizuna. I said it myself last night and I'll say it again. Gura is VTuber Queen but Kizuna is VTuber Goddess.
So what you're saying is that Kizuna Ai is Cher, meanwhile Gura is Madonna.

In that case I nominate Ame to be the Christina Aguilera of vtubers, since she sometimes sings in spanish.

Here's her singing la bamba

(the joke is that christina is referred to as the princess of pop, while the other two are the goddess and the queen respectively)

Imagine asking someone else to summarize it for you because you can’t even be arsed to show up for it,

you guys have spent the last month crying about Coco and I’ve tried to be sympathetic, but dude couldn’t even make his post about 123k people at Lulu’s graduation without mentioning Coco. So spin.
I don't speak ching chong so it's helpful that the gook whisperers here summerise.
