Digi has always been kind of an idiot who made bad decisions, even despite his psudo-intellectual vibe. That said, the majority of people watched him because he had decent takes on weebshit. You also have to remember that in 2015 the YouTube anime scene was overloaded with trend chasing and shilling, and Digi's grimy "fuck you I do what I want" content was a breath of fresh air. Shit like Finish or Fail was unlike anything anyone else was doing, and it demonstrated that Digi actually had a passion for what he was doing. The rant videos were also a genius form of monetisation and I'm shocked nobody has ripped it off yet.
Digi's problems mostly came from falling out of love with anime, which showed hard in his content. His attempt to pivot backfired hard because he just assumed his audience was interested in what he was interested in at the time, which just wasn't going to happen. The troonout and rap fallout are really just because he surrounded himself with shitty people and after his channel basically collapsed he came to (wrongfully) lean on them.

I can't believe Mother's Basement is winning the anime youtuber niche just by being consistent.
I know if Digi really doesn't like anime anymore it he'll never go back to it, but he could have grown his channel quite a lot if he'd stuck to making a couple videos a month. I guess I'm just baffled at his race to the bottom because it all boils down to he refuses to be an adult and work a job. Most people aren't thrilled with their jobs but it pays the bills, but he's determined to be some free spirit that'll get the cash flowing in with bare minimum effort.
And Billy is scummy enough that I genuinely worry he's going to eventually pressure Digi into some creepy porn thing if he hasn't already.

You know, I kind of miss the May arc. At least Digi was still making content and it was entertaining for me to post about it. This arc just feels so dead - flatlined - that I feel as though I'm desecrating a corpse. Call me optimistic, but I feel like we've reached the end. I hope I'm wrong, but as cow trends go - it's hard to pick yourself back up when you've hit the bottom. I can't even call the Yggers clowns because that implies they're still entertaining to watch. The feeling I'm getting from them is just boredom. They've been in a state of decline for sometime.
The Yggers haven't done any of the projects they said they would do like Low-Rent Witch and who the fuck knows about their anime reviews, and there's no doubt they aren't gonna follow through with making hentai. And all this time, Digi. the subject of the thread, has taken a back seat to Riley's antics. Digi for all intents and purposes is a cow whose udders have run dry. I don't know what'll take for him to start getting those udders milkin' again. Maybe it'll take he and the rest of the Yggers becoming Dick's content slaves if the RV's still on the table. The fact that he's at his Mom's may be foreshadowing of his moving back in with his parents' and becoming a NEET again as I predict once the Ygg venture inevitably fizzles out, but Christ, it sure is taking a while.

At first I was like 'Well yeah, what kind of Youtuber survives on sporadic content?' and then it dawned on me: Holy shit, Digi wants so bad to be a leftuber. Not because of his opinions (sure, he trooned out and he'd love the idea of the government giving handouts so "artists" like him can "pursue their creativity", but on everything else he leans right-libertarian with a dash of Q-style conspiracy theorism he picked up from May), but due to the way their audience operates. Think about it: Is there anyone other than Hbomb, Contra and their ilk who can drop a video about their opinions on whatever the hell they're interested in at the time, fuck off for almost a year and come back to an intact audience and a Patreon that hasn't dipped a cent?
