Let's do it point by point, though,

• The Sorcerer-Kings are villains. They're meant to be hated. If you get your way and they get written as wymmyn and/or trannies, they'll either get a fucking stupid Cruella-like "excuse" for their villainy that's supposed to make them "relatable", or you'll start screeching that players are plotting to kill so-and-so Sorcerer-King because they're a tranny. Not because they're horrible tyrants whose powers killed the world, no. Just because they're trannies.
  
  
• Athas is a world where people need to breed or society collapses. It's the last place in the multiverse that would have no qualms with LGBT. Societal norms and tradition are incredibly powerful in a world where people must rely on one another to survive even on a day-to-day basis. Only the wealthy would be able to be openly gay, and even those would be seen as degenerates and bring shame to their families because not having kids means you can't marry said kids off to make political alliances. As for trannies... dear God, of all the D&D settings they're pushing this on Dark Sun. In literally every other setting a tranny could seamlessly transition through use of a mid-level spell and a friendly GM who allows for the effects to be permanent. In Dark Sun that same arcane spell kills the world further.
  
  
• Their point about slavery really shows that these dumbasses can't handle actual evil. It wasn't just slavery. An entire race, the Muls, were created out large-scale forced slave breeding programs. Slavery is as ingrained into the functioning of many societies in Athas as horses are in Forgotten Realms. Is it horrible? Yes. And the setting is meant to be a shitty place to be. Sometimes the players can't just kill every slaver they find. Hell, try killing/routing the slavers in that caravan and watch as the newly-freed slaves, many of them sold into slavery as punishment for being criminals, ransack the nearest settlement they find. Golly, it's almost as if moral choices aren't easy. If they were, they wouldn't be choices.
  
  
• The points-of-light thing is the only thing they got even close to right. And even then, it depends on the GM and the players. Sometimes people are just out for themselves. Dark Sun is one of those places where selfish motivations (particularly revenge) work just fine. (Also, that these people are fine with cannibalism but slavery is a no-no is telling.)
  
  
• Ethnic variety. Okay, so. Do you want only the humans to be black? Or do the muls also have to be? Maybe some black elves? Maybe the aforementioned cannibal halflings? Can Thri-Kreen be melanistic? It's a world with multiple sentient species in it. As for the existing art, most of the characters depicted are bronzed. The ones that are pale tend to be "weird" or spellcasters of some description. If you want more black people in the setting, ask for the map to be expanded so there's space for a region black people would be coming from. That could be a whole new interesting thing in the setting, too. Caravans of dark-skinned merchants with exotic goods from their homelands. Have said homelands be accessible, too. Keep the desert theme, maybe add brackish swamps full of dangerous creatures and valuable treasure. Do more than just snap your fingers and suddenly, niggers.

You can do a lot of interesting tweaks and changes to the setting, if you put some effort into it. But if you just lazily wave a magic wand and change shit without any thought, people will complain about it.

Fuck, mess with Dark Sun hard enough and the fans might pull a Snoot game and just make their own with liar's dice and sex-slaves. Dark Sun isn't Forgotten Realms. It isn't a large setting. It's not that hard to tweak to remove any woke bullshit. And they'll do it chanting Make Athas Great Again, bitches.

Speaking of forums, I decided to check r/dndnext out of curiosity after many years of not lurking there (went mostly for the occassional news/announcements of splats) and boy that place went downhill. I know it is reddit but 3-4 years ago there used to be mostly useful threads there: Advice for DMs, minor homebrew or house rules, analysis on classes, etc.
Been checking there every other day for a week and I keep seeing the same cookie cutter threads:

Whats the most overrated archetype?
Whats the most underrated archetype?

If you could delete a class which one would it be?
If you could modify a class which one would it be?

Don't get me wrong, those can be fun threads/"games", but I find them to be very low effort upboat whoring.
Another tendency I noticed is the carebear attitude towards DMing: I saw a post by a DM asking about using banish to escape sigil, after being told it would work but would send the players to random locations, one user reminded others they could end up inside a volcano or the like. Users were quick to downvote him and call him a dickish DM.

Lastly there was the expected REEEEING about TSR and calling Gary Gygax Sr a bigot.

Palladium to my knowledge is still pretty SJW / globohomo free. The company is pretty much dead though thanks to mismanagement and the owner getting divorce-raped. It can be hard to find the actual books and the system is a total clusterfuck at best but most books with minimal tweaking can mesh with their other settings. You're really only limited into whatever your GM is cool with and you can think up.

That's the entire point of that huge Planefag twitter thread a bit earlier. These assholes can poz everything they want in this hobby, but the old rulebooks have never been easier to find. Even new editions can still be used if a GM decides to just rip out the parts he or she doesn't like. It's the GM's story, their world, their rules.

For example, my group decided to allow for a few optional rules from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. The "everybody is special and no one gets fixed stat bonuses!" rule was not one of them. The trainwreck that is the new Ravenloft motivated the GM to do his own version of the setting for 5e. He has the older books (and adventures/dark lords he wrote himself over the years) he can get the lore from, and 5e's version gave him a lot of stats blocks to work with, so it's not as hard as it sounds at first glance. You're GMing Forgotten Realms and want to make Elminster an outright villain? Sure, if you can find a way to explain that turn of events, go ahead.

So long as you don't let them get to you and you don't bend the knee, all they can do is ruin the current versions of whatever game you play. But it's Current Year, we should be used to new releases being shit already. Your table, your rules: if you advertise and make clear that your game is about the party murderhoboing their way through dungeons for fun and profit, anyone who's upset about it can be told to just not play the game. Tight-knit communities and groups are now more important than ever.

Well, looks like I was right in that there was some internal upheaval in there.

This should be interesting. The best that could be hoped for is that Ernie issues a non-apology and declares the issue solved.
