While it's sad to see them go, to a degree, it's good to know that several staff and authors are leaving or at the very least taking a break from the SCP community. This stuff really can mess with your head, and it's good to know that self-awareness prevails and gets people out of it, at least for a little while.
Internet popularity, even isolated in a relatively small community like the SCP wiki, is addictive. Seeing random people talk about you, positive or negative, gives a little "hit" in your head, and that can be debilitating, especially since some of the...victims? We see on the SCPwiki don't have much going on outside of the internet.
I experienced that even for a little while and to such a small degree, but it was really surreal seeing a ton of people (at maximum maybe 10), discuss me and what I did with Doctor Doctor Doctor, even though what I did was like a blip on the radar at most. I've never experienced something like that on the internet before.
Can you imagine how incredibly addictive it'd be to see dozens, or even hundreds of people praise you online? That's what's going on here. The product is feeling useful, feeling good, feeling like you accomplished something, and while it's mostly unintentional, the SCPwiki's staff has been peddling out fantasies to whoever is willing to give in. Look at all of these different authors. You can see them slowly become more and more invested into this and then, well, something cracks.
Those 3 days I spent in the limelight back in what, March? Could've gone in a totally different direction. "I wonder what else we can make them do", right, Harmony? Imagine how stupid it would be to try to keep doing that "crusade" over and over again. It'd be insane! But that's what these people on the wiki are trying to do. They struck gold, and now they desperately need to strike it again before that empty feeling creeps back in.
And they do. But each time, the gold is a little less filling, a little harder to find. It never gets easier. If you- or the SCP members reading this- are going to take anything from this thread, at the very least take this. It will never satisfy. It will never fill that God-shaped hole in your heart. None of it will last, none of it is real. And you type away at your keyboard, hoping to conjure the next big thing. More words, more CSS, more upvotes.
Your nihilism, evident as it is, is only skin deep. You desperately want to be remembered. You need to be. What are you, but an empty face behind a screen? Will these people ever know you as anything else? Are you anything more than a name to them?
No. And that is all you can ever be to them. Irrespective of whatever title you acquire, whatever contest you win, however many messages you delete, you cannot change that. Nothing is new under the sun. You find yourself building another tower, and when it collapses- and it will, in time- to whom will you flee for help, and where will you leave your wealth?
And that's it, I got nothin else to add. Those are my two bits. I came, I got the article removed, said a few stupid things, and now I'm out. I'll probably stick around and maybe comment now and then but if I'm being honest, I've overstayed my welcome. Peace.

Holy Christ in a handbasket, Batman, I've caught up with this thread. This morning, I was a naive individual. I'd enjoyed reading SCPs in bulk every now and then, maybe once a year. Like last year, I had a craving for shitty anomalous entries, and read SCP-5000, and every single other SCP mentioned in that colossus of an article, and every SCP mentioned in their articles... and so on. I've never been a member on the site, but I knew some of the staff members on the site had some worse reputations than others, and that their characters were all cringey, self-insert, power-fantasy trash. Beyond that, the great rewrite of the site that purged a lot of mary sue SCPs, and that there was a weird RP scene, I thought the wiki was pretty harmless.
Then I was browsing some other threads in the off-topic sections of KF, and found one for SCP. I just posted that wiki page about writing a SCP without much thought. I saw the wiki had a trans flag icon (though now it's a pride one, so maybe I mistook it the first time) and thought, maybe I should check the thread out to see how they went from 4channers to woke spewers. Now I've read about accounts of sexual deviancy and harassment, the top brass of the staff being made up of pedophiles ruling with an iron fist, copyright and legal mumbo jumbo, and all these past staff/community members coming out of the woodwork, some trans, to ironically work with KF like some grand conspiracy to overthrow this tyrannical force.
This is like when I found the Homestuck/Andrew Hussie thread, and was like, "Oh, I heard Hussie was a little problematic, and that Homestuck 2 was trash, but how bad could it have gotten?" only to find that he'd become an e-boy, trooned out, and that Homestuck 2 crashed and burned without a trace after becoming a propaganda machine.
I don't have anything to contribute at the moment otherwise, though now I'm interested in seeing where this trainwreck will head next. Just wanted to express how I feel like I've been living in a different universe until just now.

This thread is definitely a bizarre one, even by the standards of this forum. A lot of the regular posters here have never posted anywhere else. It almost feels like it has its own culture, separate from the rest of KF.

Yeah, those interviews read like it was conducted by the type of person you'd get into a Twitter argument with and not a professional researcher.It's not just that sentence that stands out. The entire article can be summarized as "big bad bigot frog turns nice". Hell, the researcher effected by 6404 is literally named "Marx", I'm not kidding. And they didn't even do that properly. Compare this interview log to the others you've seen, and you'll see that the researcher here reacts with more emotion and actively scolds the SCP rather than keeping a neutral stance. Good grief this meme contest is worse than the crack fic contests, I never thought I’d look back on those fondly but at least it was tongue in cheek. The “Hogslice” one is at least moderately amusing to start with but like every entry on this wretched competition it hammers the joke well past the point of it being humorous. There’s one character trait on display, which is “I want to be dado please.”
