When I called our higher corporate contact she answered me right away so guess it comes up often enough for global businesses with people having one name.

- A hanko can be anything you like really. Whether or not the people you are presenting the hanko to will accept it is another thing. If you create a bank account with a hanko that has "I love manko" on it and only use that when interacting with that bank account it'll probably be fine. If you're buying a house you need a registered hanko instead and you probably won't get away with registering something that isn't part of your name.

- You do not need a Japanese name unless you take Japanese citizenship. The alien registration cards don't even have a name in katakana.
Even if you marry a Japanese you don't need a Japanese name. International marriages have the advantage of being one of the only legal ways to keep different surnames after marriage.

That would be very impressive, as Hector Martin is actually somewhat famous in that corner of the internet, and has given public speeches. If he was also Byuu, that would be... well, yeah. A far more impressive op than those types are capable of.
