He had an absolutely extreme insistence on the purity of his emulation. That was actually admirable, although incredibly autistic. He didn't use compatibility hacks or other tricks of the trade that all the other emulators had, which meant you more or less needed top level hardware even to run his emulators.

The inefficiency was ludicrous.

More than that, you needed an Electron Microscope (which only multi-national organisations can afford) to physically trace, the way you would Debug on SoftIce for example, all the printed circuit boards (PCB's).

This was hardware hacking (cracking [reverse engineering]) of the deepest kind.

I'd not heard of half that shit before. I learned something with this: that I don't know fucking shit.

Near finished his project. The whole world should have clapped.

Yet only the most autistic of other nerds could begin to comprehend that kind of machine code hacking. Because he was down to the very bare bones of it all. True Hardware Hacking (Cracking [Reverse Engineering]).

I need to go back and look at this all again. But I got those links from the farms to his certain still up forums where he posted thousands of posts. A certain KF did great work there, but understandably got burned out. I tried to pick up where he left off.

Whatever. I don't understand any of it. But on that forum there were guys that had thousands of posts that hacked (cracked) these ROMs too.

I got the impression that cracking software would have been below them.

They would have had to internalise and remember all kinds of shit, even in Hex form to understand this. Binary, Hex, Octal, Decimal - all held in perfect state in their multi-tasking brains.

I'll admit to being seriously out of my depth here. But I do know what kind of genius these guys had. It wasn't just Near. There were a few other guys that helped him in very important ways on that forum. And for that they would have become friends. Anyone at that level of intelligence, who has done the work, gets respect. The hacker/cracker scene is built on respect. From the guys that crack the code to those that distribute. Several levels of hierarchy.

These guys were true 1337. They would have had personal connections at some point.

You know what post stands out to me as weird? The one where he (while supposedly living in Japan), was lamenting his poor Japanese skill, and was begging native Japanese speakers to email with him in some blogpost.

It really stands out to me as weird because Japan (especially Tokyo) is filled with Japanese language/conversation schools, where even if you were a sperg who couldn't strike up conversations with strangers, you can pay and practice the language and get better.

Now, it's also odd to be begging people online to message with you, since even though I've never lived in Japan, I was there once on a trip, and in the short time I was there, I probably got approached on a dozen occasions by people wanting to talk with me to practice their English on a real Gaijin. And if I asked, I am sure they would have let me practice Japanese with them in exchange.

If this retard was actually living in Japan, he must have been holed up in his apartment 24/7 or something. Japan might be xenophobic, but if you're a white English speaker in Japan and you have an ounce of social skill, you can get as much practice as you want. The whole message was just weird. So, given there were only a few other people on the same level to be able to collaborate with him, and this was (according to him) the only thing he had in life, then what are the odds that he would commit to never communicating with these people again in the case of a staged suicide? Or would they inevitably have exchanged some kind of personal information purely for collaborative reasons?
When I was digging around for anything byuu-related that wasn't in his thread, I found a person who had posted the same three screenshots of some very technical sounding tweets from byuu on both DeviantArt and Imgur. It was the only content on either of the accounts. I found that really odd but wasn't sure if it was a worthless lead or not. Do you have any opinion on this?
