Back in the 2000s we had (for example) Asian-American superhero cartoons like Juniper Lee and Jake Long. Nobody made a huge deal out of it and it was for all children to aspire to. I haven’t noticed many cartoons like that anymore. What gives?

If I had to guess it's due to more people having access to the internet than back then.

Overly “woke” media culture? Cartoons with non-white or non-straight characters don’t seem to get attention anymore unless they play it up to be a social statement, a la She-Ra, Steven Universe, and Owl House.

It’s why the few cartoons that stick to the 90s/2000s style of having characters of different races while being appealing to all children and not making it a big deal end up flying more under the radar. Amphibia and Miraculous are the only current ones that I can think of that fit this mold.

I’m a firm believer that cartoons can be enjoyed by anyone (heck, adults are the ones who create them), but when certain people outside of the target demographic start demanding that it pander to them and their overly online way of seeing the world, that’s when shit goes awry and we end up with things like this.

Ironically, SU's main character (while being camp as a nun's handbag due to being raised by three lesbian space rocks) is both white AND straight. Only ever shows attraction to a biological female. It's a stat I enjoy recalling when comparing modern cartoons.

She-Ra and Owl House are spot on though. From what I've heard, OH does it better.

They really fucked it up by having Pat Bennetar in the original trailer and then proceeded to make everyone look too modern and not give them 80's style haircuts.


Go Big Hair or go home. Keep that half shaven shit in the Matrix.

Like I know Teela didn't look the most feminine in the original series and 200X was the only one who made her look like a girl. But New Adventures of He-man didn't even make the newer characters like Mara of Primus look intentionally unappealing. She doesn't look heroic she looks like a rando side character, like the fantasy equivalent of a red shirt.

I can understand cutting hair so that it's combat effective and can't leave you open to being grabbed like long hair can, but that half shaven dyke cut isn't one of the styles that's considered appropriate either.

However they completely nailed Evil-Lyn's look and the figure even includes her 200X head without the cowl. Meanwhile Teela looks like Eminem.

Not only that. It seems to be more gradual IIRC, but straight women aren’t allowed role models either anymore. Strong whamen also have be gay at increasing rates. I suppose it’s only a matter of time before even the lesbians aren’t allowed role models unless they transition and suck girldick.

To be fair, Randor did say similar things in the original series and 200X because Teela is Captain of the Guard and Adam intentionally would run away as a cover for turning into He-Man.

I'm more concerned about them turning Orko into Shadow the Hedgehog.

Seriously tho why not make a Teela Spin off later? A Teela series sounds interesting. They could focus on the character without He-man getting in the way. And they most likely could do it if they wanted to. Also I don't like her new looks at all besides her body physique. Nothing stands out or is unique. Of course she doesn't have wear the cringy 80s swimsuit like "armor" but her old hairstyle was great and it was also made in a way no one could grab her hair in a fight. And now it's just the same hairstyle we've seen a billion times in video games etc.

I get that they wanted to make her more look like a soldier but they could at least gave her an unique look.
