I brought up the fact that Clayton's shitty "apology" for cheating was brought out exactly when said runs are under suspicion because the timing is extremely odd. Even if the runs aren't spliced I wouldn't be surprised if something was fishy about them. The Speedrun Moderators have been trying to kill the rumors about the 1.15 runs for a month now. According to one of the Head Mods, they have zero evidence that supports any of his previous runs being faked. Apparently the only reason one of them went under suspicion was because their head verifier Casseroii has a huge hate boner for Clay and claimed she saw a splice.
When it turned out that there was no splice, she immediately backpedaled and disappeared for a month.
Blowjobblax and Klein aren't sources worth listening to, and nobody who cared about Dream cheating should have listened to them, I'll give you that. I don't really think Clayton pulled the wool over anyone's eyes either, I just believe he had a hand in the video as Karl was overly soft in this video, and trying to somewhat vindicate Dream through the comparisons of Billy Mitchell, who seems to be a hated figure in the speedrunning community. I find it hard to buy his excuse of cheating "by accident". But there's two scenarios here I can believe, Scenario A which I could believe but has holes, and Scenario B which makes more sense to me.The main thing Karl was trying to disprove was the actual fake info that retards like H3H3 and Bowblax were spreading, while also saying "The evidence fits the timeline Dream presented more than the timeline everyone else assumed."
As it stands, though, the Moderators have verified basically everything Karl brought forward in the video, with at least one (KaptainWutax) being involved with gathering and providing info for Karl. Keep in mind that both Karl and Wutax were vocally losing respect for Clay by this point, yet the evidence was enough to sway over both of them. So if Clay was able to pull the wool over Karl and Wutax's eyes 8 months after this controversy, why not just feed the mods this claim back in October? He would've been able to remove the mod without getting in trouble and probably would've gotten decent leaderboard entries anyways.
- Scenario A: Dream's description of the mod is accurate: Dream described the mod with functions a datapack could do, and considering he previously called a resource pack a mod, such as during the infamous "guys my menu mod put the dreamnotfound text lol such a wacky coincidence" incident during the breakdown stream after his "apology", I wouldn't be surprised if Dream has no actual knowledge of mods, but it doesn't seem he applied a datapack in his streams, so unless he spliced, unlikely, it is most likely Scenario B.
- Scenario B: Dream did indeed have a mod commisioned for the manhunt, and due to his lack of knowledge on mods did indeed have the mod on by accident, but, this option would also prove him to be extremely retarded, as not only would he have to have not checked his mod folder for six whole seperate livestreams, but didn't utilize the Minecraft launcher's extremely easy feature of swapping installations on the fly before launching the game. The Minecraft launcher has a system to switch installations before launch that only takes around 2 clicks, and is compatible with modded installations, so he could've had a seperate installation for speedrunning the game, but didn't.
There was no real, logical reason as to why Clayton and Mitchell should have been compared besides the fact that they both cheated in their speedruns, as well. It comes off as a play to make Dream look better by comparing him to a figure reviled by the audience and saying "Look, he's not as bad as that guy"
I've gone on about this before, but Dream being right on the speedrun mods being unprofessional does change my stance a little bit.Perhaps Clay wasn’t lying about the lack of objectivity and professionalism from the speedrun mods. From my encounters, they all seem rather childish and spiteful over the whole drama — but it seems Geosqaure himself has moved on.
Dream has a typical tactic in his statements against opposition, of trying to discredit an argument by bringing it to the lowest possible odds, while also insulting his opposition to make them appear as wrong. Examples being: The infamous astrophysicist, his argument that his fanbase isn't "antiblack" (both sides were stupid there, "antiblack" isn't a thing), and especially this statement on the toxicity of his stans:
Dream said:it honestly is a “small” amount of people. People who think that a substantial percentage of stans are doxers and send death threats are just dumb. Even if it is “thousands” of minecraft stans which I would even disagree with that, we’re talking about a fandom where there are millions of active minecraft stans. Even if we say there are 5,000 different people actively doxing and sending death threats and 2 million minecraft stans, that’s very comparable to the percentage of people that have literally murdered someone in the US. Which is obviously way worse.
There are lots of problems with the fandom and it’s terrible when someone is doxed or death threatened by someone, but this particular issue isn’t one that’s any worse or more prevalent than any other community (other than that the community is large). Based on my experience on the internet I would say it’s actually far far better than almost every Minecraft space I’ve been in (and this may be due to the higher percentage of girls, as opposed to the male dominated areas I’ve played in like PvP)
Before this simply made me believe that he just has to get the last word in, and refuses to let anyone else win an argument, but from the context now, I think he might just be actually fucking retarded. Does he not realize how bad every single statement he makes in retaliation to something comes off? If he had a PR manager, wouldn't the guy be screaming his head off at Clayton to NOT include remarks about his opposition in an argument?
