An inconvenient truth, the human body needs constant exposure so its immune system is strong enough to fight off stronger illnesses. Even if the measures he took were 100% foolproof, his immune system hasn't been getting enough exercise, thus the slightest hiccup (and it will happen, viruses are sneaky little bastards) is going to get him sick.

I don't know why he's bitching, his vaccination should help reduce the severity of it (something time has been doing).

You're not wrong, but you're not entirely right either.

The human body (and the bodies of most other species) do need exposure to keep the immune system active and primed to fight off infections.
HOWEVER, masking and acting like a pretentious cunt for 2 years isn't going to much to impair it, because masks don't actually do much to stop pathogens. They don't to shit to stop fungal spores or aerosolized viruses, and given how many people touch their masks anyway and the moisture they collect, you're arguably getting a bacterial smorgasbord from wearing one for too long.
This is also assuming that even the true believers were their holy talismans of science everywhere 24/7, which is hardly the case.

If someone were living for decades in true isolation and wearing a hazmat suit everywhere, there would be some negative side effects on the immune system (even worse if kids were to undergo their formative years in these conditions).
Alternatively, if your entire population is isolated from a given taxa of pathogens for generations (see: Indigenous Americans and the Poxviruses) it will leave you vulnerable to that taxa.

TL:DR:
Masks don't really work

The state of the UK media. Yesterday we were told there could be 50,000 cases a day, by end of summer, and today it is going to be 100,000. If they surge tested the whole country, right now, we probably have millions with detectable amounts up their noses.

A drop in mask and sanitizer sales has been detected and the media was encouraged to put big numbrs on the front pages.
