Even if a paypig is stupid enough to trust him, the only logical conclusion is that he will need to hold fundraisers almost every month.
This is exactly what I think will happen. I've got a feeling that this will cause a vicious cycle which will result in almost monthly begathons because he'll get "slower" support right after the begathons. He will not realize that he makes his sperm whales blow their loads on the begathons and because of that they need a refractory period to recover, namely until they collect next month's welfare check. It's similar to how the mid-stream beg tweet which was something that happened rarely a year ago is an almost daily occurrence on his streams ever since last week. It's almost crazy how Phil from just 2 years ago is "mild" in his begging compared to now. Whenever you think he's scraping the bottom of the barrel, a year later he shows that hasn't even begun exposing just how low he can go.

"Wowwwww dood, 64 gigs um Nintendo, ok? Here's the thing...the truth of the matter is it's not 2005 and nobody wants your stupid clown gimmicks anymore ack ack ack."

Can anyone familiar with Danganrompa tell me if these little 'hangout' things he's doing with the characters are actually required to beat the game? It looked like it was basically a dating sim or Persona social link where you have to pick a gift and then you have a scene with that character to get their backstory or develop their character. Is Phil actively stalling the game despite complaining the game is too long and that this is the slow part of the game but he's sure it's going to pick up soon?
Not really. If you’re allergic to social sims you can just skip to next scene by sleeping in bed instead. That said successfully bonding with your peers the first time will give you a skill that you can then equip to make the class trials easier. They’re minor things like giving you more health, increasing your firing speed (you shoot evidence at statements and clear out white noise with bullets), slowing energy consumption when you use bullet time, etc so they’re not essential but they make the action parts easier. You can also get a second, more powerful skill if you max out your relationship but realistically you can’t do this with characters that die early on in the game on your first runthrough.

These mechanics mainly are designed to compensate people who care about the social sim/VN stuff but suck at the action parts of the games since the genres/player demographics don’t replay overlap much on their own.

No. He just hid it better until someone put 2 and 2 together and realized his water break was a whale call.
Oh yeah sorry I should've been clearer, a public whale call is something that happened rarely and is now an almost daily occurrence, before that he at least had enough shame to do it "behind da scenes".

And he's pretty confident that this cycle is gonna last forever. Dude, it takes just ONE whale leaving to this entire shady scheme to crumble. I don't think they will ever leave DSP, but what about a medical emergency? Or, for example, someone like Jax_raxxor wants to save money, but it's not a completely idiot?

Phil is pushing his, already dangerously small, whale army to the limit, but I don't think he realizes how little whales he has, specially if they keep tipping from 37 (hint hint) different names.

I wonder if Phil realizes how insane it is that he wants to hold a fundraiser even though nothing particularly negative happened. Like, there wasn't any health scare, lawsuit, taxes, nothing he was blindsided by. He's just saying it's to pay bills.

He has to realize that that is unsustainable in the long run...

Right?
Honestly, I hope he is pulling an exit scam. That he has been saving money on the side, and he is going to milk these whales dry until the wheels fall off, then disappear into obscurity.

yup and considering the response to the Nintendo Twitter thread has been rather less than positive, his gaming news segment is just going to be regurgitating what people said on twitter as his own opinion.

I'm hoping for an electrical outage that lasts a week minimum.

SNORT

So apparently the fucking morons at Nintendo have once again fucked me over. Apparently - apparently, get this: we're supposed to pay them, AGAIN, for the same cahnnsole! It's insanity! All they fucking did was make the screen a little better and put the LAN port inside the console and now they think gamers are going to pay $300 for that? Why would I do that if I can buy a PS5 or Xbox and get ACTUAL UPGRADES that matter to REAL GAMERS? See the prahblem is that Nintendo really isn't street smart. They are Jap-uhh, they have a different market in Japan, and people basically worship them, and they just do whatever they want and nobody criticizes them because they're like, GODS OF GAMING over there and since the people basically don't know any better they keep buying it. So now, instead of competing with everyone they just use HYPE to sell consoles without actually doing anything!

Anyway the tip goal is $5000 today because I am going to need to buy this and all of the accessories for muh business. Sound good?

oh my fucking GOD. I can't sleep so im up watching DSP make mfking tacos, and he MENTIONS HOW EASY HAMBURGER HELPER IS. BRO. WHAT A FUCKING LIAR HAHA
This is one of my favorite cooking with the kings.
  1. The receipe calls for 1lb of ground beef and he had 1.25 lbs. Instead of saving the extra quarter pound for another time, he just throws the raw meat in the trash. You can see this happening in the microwave reflection.
  2. As he is cooking the meat with taco seasoning, he mentions a nice "Mexican scent" coming from the pan.
  3. Rocking like an autist while opening the ground beef.

And the kicker is that's the general opinion and that's how I feel not the whole different environment of vidya games sales in Japan but the whole thing being lackluster and also shit they should have implemented in the first place not three years and change down the line. Philbert wont say shit nobody else has already said before his 10:52am pacific wake up time but his wheelchairs will eat it up like he's a prophet.

then we'll just get a week of creepy phone streaming shit like pic related

I've literally never seen another person in ANYTHING hold a fundraiser for themselves short of "I need $5K to pay for emergency medical treatment" or the like.

I've seen plenty of lolcows begging for money, but never holding actual "fundraisers."

I think Phil might actually be getting pinched by something real.

As @Surly Muppet (and others) have pointed out many times, Phil crying poor and lying or hiding cash flow is nothing new, so trusting his word on needing money needs to be taken with an unreal amount of salt. And as @actually/@Piece of Peace & Friends have documented, what Phil describes as being broke is dramatically different from what most middle class Americans (to say nothing of most people on this planet) would call broke.

But it's very interesting to me that we've had a new tips goal (one which he's fought before and forced him to switch up part of his autistic gaming setup), a marathon (which he tends not to break out too often because I think even he knows the whale milk can run out) and, very surprisingly, a tips streak that would give the audience some measure of control over the scheduling/playing of games (even if that list will certainly be tightly governed by Phil).

Ceding control and giving into viewer demands is something Phil fights tooth and nail, if anything because it can set precedent. There's a measure of mild desperation in this which points to one of three possibilities.

Option 1- Something moved "Behind the Scenes" which is putting some pressure on him, but in a way that he can't talk about because it would "feed the trolls", so something related to Kat (he's shirking on quality of life stuff for her- eating out, new games/toys, upkeep for Jasper, etc) or debt (he's already racking up payments on a new credit card, which considering he's high risk, will likely have insane interest rates). He's flagrant about talking about almost everything in his life if he needs money- Taxes, lawyers, mortgages, so it would have to be something special for him not give a specific reason for a marathon event.

Option 2- His gambling/mobile game addiction is killing him. I noted a number of pages back when he lost his Twitch partnership is that the protected nature of his subs/cheers money was probably more valuable than raw cash. A gambling addict chews through money at a rate that's hard to explain to someone who isn't another addict, but Twitch was effectively protecting his monthly expenses from him; Twitch payment comes in, Phil immediately pays mortgage, internet, etc, and everything else that comes in through can be wasted on whatever he craves in that moment. However, when that system changed, he was going to need to save some of that money, which is almost impossible for someone who's really hooked. It's always going to be "One more pull, one more pull" and then the money you knew you needed for the mortgage payment is gone, but you'll definitely save tomorrow's tips. Rinse, repeat.

Option 3- Both. He's racking up debt to try and keep the addiction going while not failing behind on the mortgage, but he knows this will be catastrophic long term, so he's trying to (ineptly) stay ahead by breaking out some of the old tricks. He's worried, but his narcissism thinks that he can still pull this off without major disruption. This would explain why we're seeing mild desperation, but not full-blown "$50 Sonic Hat", "2 Tips Goals Streak for Multiplayer" panic mode.

I'm not saying "We've finally got him where we want him" and I'm certainly not saying that someone making a 6 figure salary who's going out to eat every day is in real financial straights, but it really does seem like something has unsettled him and he's attempting to react accordingly.

I wonder if not hitting the goal for his Fallout New Vegas extended stream with the normal amount of gameplay sometimes less than normal marathon will be what make him get so desperate he'll start cutting right to the chase and telling people to just give him money or maybe even "I'm not going to start playing unless I get some donations",

I feel we're getting closer and closer to that point with every stream..
The goals purpose is to manipulate and push people to give him money to meet it. It's arbitrary. A number just thrown out there because he's just trying to succ all the money from wallets that he can in a time frame.

DSP having goals is laughable. He has none and doesn't know how to make them.
