Dumb Shit on Wikipedia

She faded from prominence well before 2015, so she hasn't been involved with the further devolving of Wikipedia that happened after the 2016 election.
The reddit thread pointed out a lot of discrepancies and questionable "facts" in that.

I don't think she's dead. There's no obituary listing in the Saskatoon StarPost of anyone remotely resembling her name - just at the funeral home, with no inputs from family or friends. The online obituary claims she wrote a spate of articles in that publication in 2002-2003, but those aren't there either. Her obituary also (weirdly) claims that her apex of reporting was investigating a family of indigenous (called a "blended family") Saskatoon residents and discovering that their disabled daughters (suffering from "fetal alcohol spectrum disorder") were lying about having been sexually abused. The title of the investigative series was supposedly "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times", and that's not on the Saskatoon StarPost database, despite that she supposedly won unspecified "national awards" for these articles.

That's such a weird thing to put in someone's obituary.

If it's true, sounds pretty sucky to die of 27 year long COPD.

I mean I'd assume a funeral home would not just put up random shit without having a body or something. Apparently nobody irl cared about SV in the least.

On this note, that is untrue. She was moderating the Gamergate article well into 2016 (at least) and it was once posted about in the Alison Rapp thread here. People were upset with her edits and the majority-leftist admins became less interested in catering to her zionism, but she definitely participated in the site.

Edit: In 2019 she deleted a portion of an article about that survey asking people if they knew about the 6 gorillion.

Final note: The Wikipedia Sucks forum did some investigative work already and seem to have found more information about the family via photos of her pets. The thread is worth a read.

She had long resigned as an admin and was policing 4-5 articles, I don't think she had been active even on that for a couple of years.

They are being too paranoid. Funeral homes aren't going to fuck around with that (name just one example that isn't some kind of Q-like shit), the only discrepancies are because she didn't mention the divorce she had at some point nor the subsequent marriage in Canada.

I stopped caring about her years ago, some of the old evil fucks from those days like JzG in particular have become even more prominent

Anything even vaguely derisive of the eponymous orange man seems to be deserving of at the very least a mention by wikipedos. It's insane how much pure schlock relating to that man can be found scattered across Wikipedia.

I'm guessing this is them trying to justify it with their autistic copyrighted photos rule.
No joke. Go on a bunch of celebrities wikipedia pages and there will be something like "(insert celebrity here) call than current President Trump a retard"

Wikipedia doesn't give Odysee its own article, but still implicates it with the far-right in the very first paragraph. You know it's gotten bad when even Wikipedians call this into question.

On closer inspection, the edits appear to have come from GorillaWarfare, a dumb cunt who came to my attention 16 pages back for implementing the no-pronoun compromise (which has since been rolled back). A Wikipedia admin who specialises in "far-right" topics like alt tech and incels - she would naturally be opposed to Odysee just existing.

As described by user Brian Reading on the article's talk page:

He's not the only one. User Cameronnewland chimes in 2 days later with some much stronger words against the activist editor admin. (WHY is someone like her allowed to become an admin?)

In both cases, GorillaWarfare says that anyone wanting to accuse her of bias must do so through the official channels. (Who's willing to be they'll have much success with that?) She denies that her political stance has anything to do with the issue being contested, and hides behind the fact that her assertion is well sourced (which I don't doubt that it is).

Trouble is though that citing the mainstream media - when said media has a bias - is only going to result in Wikipedia articles sharing that bias. GW is either too stupid to have realised this, or she thinks the small group of media orgs that Wikipedia puts on their whitelist adds up to an objective view on reality, or she's aware of the bias and actively welcomes it.

Because as Null said on stream last week, the Wikipedia situation really is hopeless. They expect a certain journalistic standard from their sources, and that standard presumably rules out any suffieicntly based news org that you're thinking of citing, and anyone to the right of the Jew York Times.

So on that note, does anyone know of an alternative to Wikipedia (or an active proposal to build one) that doesn't suffer from WP's (dare I say it) institutional bias? Even just one that covers the controversial topics? Because at the moment, there doesn't seem to be any. (Inb4 'Conservapedia', because that site is pure autism.) And given Wikipedia's longstanding issues, I'd be surprised if no one's used the Creative Commons licence to fork them.

Either way, the discussion above seems to have stalemated, with the page tag still in place but no additional comments since June. Looks like the war will be won via apathy.

Anyone that is copying the wiki format? No, and I don't know what could be done any differently that would change the situation. The funny thing is that sometimes I've searched for some people and gotten Encyclopedia Britannica results that were helpful if somewhat short. But their website is not comprehensive enough.

What I always felt would be the wikipedia killer with the biggest change of success would be someone mounting a takeover of Encyclopedia Britannica, and basically run it as an anti-Wikipedia. Probably no other group would have the credibility they have, even if its a century old great-grandpa like credibility.

I think the creator of Gravity Falls wikipage has an entire personal life section sperging about Trump. There's some congressman from the West Coast I think too where it discusses him being a Trump retweeter and calling himself a hero for retweeting orange man.

Also if you go on celebrities who supported Trump. Most of them are treated in negative light. It's unreal

This is why I still have a paper copy of the EB. No autistic fuckwad with rainbow hair can reach into it and change history.

I didn't mind the Macaulay Culkin one. It was something he actually said about movies he was in, and a personal experience with Trump. Most of them, though, I'd bet you'd find a small group of autists, or even one really persistent autist, who just goes out and searches for random celebrities and Trump on Google, then autistically adds them to the article.

Fun fact: Culkin suggested replacing Trump's cameo in the re-release of HA2 with footage of himself now. Somehow, that seems more relevant than the throwaway insult.

As an aside, still retarded (maybe notable). Freaking out about an out of office politician they hate at this moment never ages well, like all the BUSH FASCISM music of the 00s. Sometimes I've come across cringy anti-Reagan anthems too.

It would ruin the joke anyway. which is that he was (at the time) the well-known owner of the Plaza Hotel.

Specialist encyclopaedias are typically good quality.

Honeslty i wouldn't be surprised that some people are doing that on there. I mean it is easy to just type Trump and a celebrity name. And your find an article of them sperging about Trump.

This was 100% necessary on a page about the creator of a children's cartoon

lol those are literally the political views of a child.... Sterile, faux-edgy "anti-authoritarianism" that threatens absolutely no one in power. "Trolling" voter fraud hotlines? Shitlibs are the dumbest motherfuckers on the planet.

The trolling of the voter fraud lines was a forced meme put forward by crazy lefties when the concept was relevant. You can check Twitter during the time to see how autistic it got.

And again, similar to Culkin, him doing that as a “joke” - low-hanging fruit, but kinda funny (late and gay, but they tried)

the fact that it’s appeared in 3 different articles should be an embarrassment to everyone involved, however.

I have a paper communist encyclopedia from the 1980s and it's slightly less skewed than Wikipedia. For example, when looking up medieval German nobles, it doesn't list all the times Marx called them fat pigs (and he called them fat pigs a lot).
