As much as I feel many doctors/surgeons are jumping on the $$$ GRS bandwagon the decision, on the whole, is not down solely down to the surgeon/clinic - yaniv must have had a GP's report of some sort done, a shrink must have assessed him and yeah the surgeon must have seen the physical shape, at least, he was in...all must have had access to his full medical records and any one of them could have stopped the surgery going ahead. I don't feel there's one medical bod solely to blame. Then there's yaniv himself who, no doubt, accepted the risks and still agreed to have it done.

It still baffles me that step one of becoming a licensed doctor is taking a "do no harm" oath, and yet we still get doctors more than happy to permanently remove the most basic biological functions of a person who continue to be licensed doctors. Ironically, sex offenders have the lowest rates of recidivism among all prison inmates in the USA... but that's also because laws limiting places where SOs can live, civil commitment, and draconian levels of surveillance over internet activity post-prison basically leaves no other option but to keep your nose clean. Also, being in prison as an SO in the USA really sucks if you can't get into SHU. This obviously does not apply to Canada because trannies actually have rights up there and now everyone's paying the price.

Problem is that in the 60s and 70s, we didn't realise that medication can only go so far. Think of all the crazies out there who are legally mandated by a court to maintain a psychiatric medication regiment and get tested regularly to ensure compliance.

Do these court-mandated procedures work? Well... not always. Even if psychotherapy is mandated as part of the court order, most of the time they just sit through the sessions and mark time until their period is over. Pills can do a lot of shit, but they can't make a person unwilling to change well... change in any substantial or meaningful way.

It is absolutely true that nobody gets anything out of therapy unless they want to. Some therapists make a lot of money out of it though. Imagine the freedom of being able to be as rude as you like to your clients and they have to keep attending, and you get paid regardless.
