Welp this has reminded me to get around to unsubbing from smegma. I'd tolerated their leftist talking points for the most part but even then they've just become really stale. Tried watching their SA2 series lately, their laughing has gotten really fake and high pitched sounding, couldn't sit through the first episode. I still like a lot of the stuff they've done with Oney but eh. Good luck, funny boi

Did they really go full sanfran nuts or just pretending like these youtubers tend to do for short term clout? Aside from Matt's twitter addiction they seemed mostly normal from what I remember. But I don't know anything about them since that Uncles music video with Oney.

Full on nuts, to the point where the BLM riots first started they did a BLM episode for their podcast and namedropped Jontron for both brownie points and to sic their fans at Jon, I believe it was a mention of that stupid Destiny bullshit Jon did years ago
Someone described it best, they're now just two rich guys playing a character of their former selves as because of being with Arin and getting the twitter kids from that fanbase they had to start deleting a lot of jokes that could "potentially" offend someone from their videos, like a live action video they did climbing a mountain Matt slides down a hill and it says "Escape from Auschwitz" as he looks like a skeleton

SuperMega used to be okay, better with OneyPlays, but ever since Game Grumps started going downhill they took SuperMega with them unfortunately

Yeah the moment Saint Floyd ate turf they went full retard and started really ratcheting back their hotter takes, I gave up on them not long after because they became incredibly hypocritical. Even moreso at the time their upload schedule really started going to shit and nothing they discussed was interesting. I wouldn't say what made their videos entertaining was the edgy shit, they seemed genuine if a little juvenile at times and they could've gotten away with toning things down.

Instead they went full 'tard, its a shame to hear they're even going back to edit their old shit too. A refusal to leave their good material alone shows they've really gone far downhill. That's so shitty even the Grumps haven't done a full 'corrective edit' on their old shit, if only because of laziness.
 
In the playthroughs themselves the socal shit hasn't overtaken whole episodes, but there's enough dull jabs that they consistently annoy me. I could deal with it if they were as entertaining as they used to be but they're stale enough now that it's not worth it anymore

It's a shame, they've got that artist making really nice thumbnails for their channel. Not as iconic as the white newgrounds blobs in Oney Plays thumbnails but they're really slick and clean looking. And haven't watched the recent podcasts but they have very nice 3D models of them in the same art style. What a waste of talent

That podcast was their biggest mistake I'd say, it let the two of them air out their politics and Ryan was initially more tolerable as he tries to discuss both sides of an issue but that BLM episode was the 180 and their discussion on Chris Chan was the nail in the coffin
If you don't know they found out more about Chris Chan through the documentary and they decided to go full tranny ally by missing the point on why chris chan is so infamous and go by his pronouns JUST because they want to seem like they're p r o g r e s s i v e, then also tried to inject themselves into christory by commenting on posts about the documentary in hopes Chris notices them (I believe Matt was still put in Chris's hitlist)

The kicker about the edgyness is that they pulled the same "we've grown up guys" shit Arin did when he threw Newgrounds under the bus in the SrPelo incident, but yet would keep making pee and poo jokes on the podcast, including promising that after that BLM episode they were going back to poo jokes or whatever, it just sucks overall

Needing to be able to trust someone before they make a joke is beyond all levels of retardation.

I guess it also explains why these people don't have healthy social lives and are always infighting. The desire to be right and correct by a bunch of arbitrary rules so you can use "moral" authority to control others never panned out well for larger institutions like the medieval church.

As far as I know SuperMega makes a retarded amount of money via Patreon, especially compared to their current output. It definitely makes sense why they act the way they do now, even if it's disgustedly disingenuous.
I'm not sure how much Chris actually makes from the videos, considering he has a whole channel manager, editors, and obviously the guests but maybe that's why merch gets shilled so much because it actually makes him a sizeable amount of money.
 
I just started listening to SleepyCast, and in an early episode they talk about how hard they work as animators just to be flat broke. They worked 14 hour days to make art that they knew wasn't going to make much money because they were driven to make it. YouTube is just not a profitable place for creatives who only put out one video every few months. That's why so many animators pivoted into let's plays, because it's way easier and way more profitable.

Chris, Zach, Tomar, Ding Dong, and Julian all clearly do let's plays on the side because it makes money and they have fun doing it. Each of them also have creative projects or professional careers that they are putting their passion into. I really look forward to Bowlbo, Bippy, and Smiling Friends because it's what these guys would do even if it didn't make them any money.

Are Matt and Ryan passionate about anything outside of comedy? Matt has released some music that I think is actually pretty good, but that's all I can think of. There's nothing wrong with having one major drive, but I think it highlights a difference between the channels. OneyPlays is a collective of creatives who are pursuing their passion and are funny organically on the side, and SuperMega is a pair of guys who need to be funny to put food on the table. Maybe Chris's primary income is his channel, but it's not all he has.

SuperMega is much more beholden to their audience because that's all they have. If you grow an audience of people who will cancel you for saying the faggotword, then you have to stop saying the faggotword.

Supermega was something they both started up mid-college education for both of them, they dropped out precisely to pursue the 'career' of Let's Player (and I guess just general e-celeb). So I think you really nailed it on the head here, they're going to follow that money.. though they sure started their fanbase by being pretty raunchy.

So essentially they're the rainbow icon during June of LPers, fake as hell and these days so laughably unrelatable its funnier than any of their content.
