Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

So it's confirmed that MOTU Revelations wound up becoming severely fucked up.

Kevin Smith ruined the whole series in order to tell white men to fuck off, because he wants to be the George Lucas of minority focus sci-fi shows and have minorities worship him.

It's like you were given a golden opportunity and you fucked it up because you didn't like the target audience and thought you could force other groups to like it out of your own sheer personally vanity.

At least Kurt Cobain had the decency to off himself after a similar thing happened with his self produced media.

And the Netflix CGI MOTU show resembles nothing established in MOTU, Sorceress is a black woman with a shaven haircut with white hair and wears a blue cape and cowl.
Lmfao, joke’s on the cucks who said it’s best to “wait and see”, as if there was any chance in hell they wouldn’t fuck it up.

Hope you like getting disappointed, despite every shred of evidence suggesting that this was the outcome you should’ve expected.

I can say your hope is misplaced, if this reboot even does happen. Considering how these other 80s reboots have gone, there's little to no chance of them not fucking it up. The Toys That Made Us is a really good show though.
I know what you mean, especially if the show goes on Netflix. They better keep the awesome theme song and its guitar solo, though.

If you liked OG MOTU and/or 200X the show follows none of what was established or expected. 200X expanded the story and provided deeper motivations and explanations for existing characters and such.

No, let's just drop monologues and talking head expositions for half the thing. Skeletor isn't even heavily featured either.

So basically ClownfishTV was right
No not really, the whole motivation seems to be based around them telling other white people to fuck off because if other white people are hanging around them they can't be Daenerys from Game of Thrones.

Silverhawks is next on the possible reboot block. As an 80s retrotoon fan, I hope they don't fuck it up like they did to She-Ra (a cartoon that meant a lot to me as a kid) and Thundercats (I'm not talking about the first, Mike Young reboot). From what I remember, Bluegrass was the only member of the team with a personality, but there was a charm to the show.
For a lot of shows that amounted to being toy commercials, a lot of 80s cartoons had interesting concepts; SilverHawks itself was basically transhumans in space. In the right hands, some revivals can squeeze a lot from the concept like GI Joe, Transformers and Ninja Turtles. In the wrong hands, you get stuff like Nu-Ra and Roar…yeah it irks me when a cool concept goes to waste.
"He" refers to the guy on the picture. The girl speaking is his sister, so if she was talking about his mom, she wouldn't be using pronouns at all because they have the same mom? (genuine question, my English grammar is rusty)
So either she chooses to keep the gender of the person ambiguous because she doesn't want to out her brother or this is indeed nonbinary bullshit. Considering the episode this is from...yeah, make up your own judgement.
Yeah, I was referring to how the fandom is cringey and autistic and, sjw bullshit aside, the show isn't even that good because the showrunner doen't know wtf she's doing, so you won't be losing much.
I can't belive I used to be excited for this show when it was coming out
This show felt like a Trojan horse; it had a neat premise with interesting art and the promise of being a horror comedy, something rare nowadays. And then it fucked it all up. I’m not going to miss this show when it ends, especially when the creator has acted so obnoxious.

Every single time; I try giving something the benefit of the doubt and I end up looking like a moron. I didn’t have any hopes for the CG series and it still ended up disappointing. Why is it that Mattel wants to recreate Nu Ra so badly?

It's not coming from Mattel because they wound up canceling a bunch of MOTU related items which already had finished the production samples stage.

The showrunners are mismanaging shit, it's a similar deal on why Star Wars merch rotted on shelves. It wasn't hasbro's fault the movies were shit.

What is with writers beingbdicka to potential fans

I don't know whose choice it was not to have a single worthwhile piece of Baby Yoda merch for the Christmas when it was the biggest meme character in the whole franchise at the time. Whoever made that choice was a genuine idiot.

I know what you mean. It's also a shame that a number of retrotoons were so heavily linked to their toy sales so even a good show could be cancelled due to low sales. But it was all a double-edged sword.

My guess is because they think they're above the original fans and think the new fans (the SJW and woke crowds) are superior. Let alone that a number of them aren't fans to begin with.

I fondly remember when I was at Wizard World back when the 200x Masters of the Universe cartoon was coming out and they showed the toys and this old man asked when the toys would come out since the boy with him (who I guess was his grandson) was interested in them. It shows that with some love for the series, you can get potential fans interested (even one that are a different race than the heroes themselves, the kid and the grandpa were black).

I've yet to hear a suitable explanation that I believe, I think eventually a channel like Defunctland will get the real answer.

Fair point, I should be asking why the showrunners seem so desperate for the SPOP fanbase, especially when this was advertised as for the original fans. Now the people who were shitting on the fans getting excited are smugly going “It’s not for you!”
It makes me even more worried for the SilverHawks; the company might claim they’re huge fans all they want but that doesn’t much anymore. I’d much rather have more seasons of Toys That Made Us.

IIRC, supposedly this was a choice from Dave Filoni himself and wanting to keep The Child a surprise by avoiding mass spoilering by merchandise. This was something he had to fight for as everyone else was super keen on selling Baby Yoda merch.

Disney has lawyers that told Hamas to fuckoff with using it's Islamic Mickey Mouse. Filoni successfully denying Disney millions of dollars during the Holiday season for creative reasons and not only still working at the company but still alive and breathing is about as believable as Bigfoot actually existing.

Where can I read this confirmation? Is there an article about it somewhere, or a thread?

Interesting. I only have vague recollections of the show, I'm fairly certain all the characters were reasonably bland with the villains at least having more unique looks. I also swear I remember an episode where one of the villains routed a meteor shower to target the protagonist's HQ then was arranging bets on which asteroid which would wipe it out. Which was an entertaining enough notion.

That said the article seems weirdly condescending about the show's episode run of 65. It's fairly long for something entirely intended to sell toys. Also Mon Star's transformation routine best be the same. I know it can't be a rip off on Mumm-Ra's when it's the same company doing both but the laziness of it was marvelous.

In terms of Owl House I still consider the show okay. I think some of its episodes do still have dips in quality compared to others and the assorted articles demanding people like it because of representation are dull but there's some reasonably good ideas in there, a decent bit of comedy and most of the time it does its messages without picking them up and bludgeoning people over the head with them.

Amphibia is better though.

A shitload of cartoons had 65 episode runs back then, though. That way it could run every weekday.

That was what I though. But the article talked about "only" a 65 episode run. With me sat here going "pretty sure that's more than a lot of current series."
Seemed like a very odd flex. Might be just an odd wording in the article.

Werner Herzog also told them not to change the puppet to CGI or they'd be cowards. Man's a legend.

That's because current series don't prioritize pumping out as many episodes as possible regardless of the quality.

True enough. I am certain a non-zero amount of Silverhawks episodes could have gone unshown with little change to the overall quality of a toy promoting show.
