The entire philosophy of the left is to attack the source, because if they can label you as "right-wing", everything you say will be dismissed no matter how much evidence you provide.
That's why the entire MSM policy like the Hunter laptop scandal is to just not report it. Because if CNN/MSNBC won't report it but Fox News does, people will instantly dismiss it as "right-wing propaganda." So anything that CNN doesn't report just doesn't exist to a lot of people, and when you bring it up to them they label you a conspiracy theorist because they legit have no idea what you are talking about. There are people that still 100% believe that Antifa is something that Trump just made up, and that no violent riots happened all last summer, because CNN just doesn't report things that make the left, BLM, or LGBTQPZIA+ look bad.
Edit: Here is a really glaring example. I just put "Wi Spa" into CNN's search and got no results (technically I got 94 results, but none on the actual indicent). When I put it into Google search, the three featured articles declared it fake:
