It's not like the feds get a notification that this happened, but yes reporting it can be problematic. Even if you report it anonymously, if they look into it at all then they would get the logs and try to narrow down whoever "downloaded" those images aka loaded the webpage with the images.
It's best to just handle the issue in-house and report the accounts doing it.
