Tech Bubble Armageddon Prediction Thread

All you gotta do is look at how fucking shitty people's attitudes have gotten this last decade to know some real trouble is probably ahead, it's not normal the way people act these days and it could be reflective of some deeper problem, like people can sense something is really wrong even if they don't consciously realize it so they lash out in more and more bizarre ways.

Looking at this from a secular perspective, my hope is that the 1980s prediction that the 21st century would be the "Japanese century" unironically comes true, Japan swoops in and becomes the world's number 1 superpower and acts as a model for everyone else to follow by being a culture that wasn't completely corrupted unlike the west.

I'm being funny but at the same time I'm actually being dead serious, there's something at the core of Japanese culture that is good, that really can provide an example for the rest of the world, I think that's one reason why it's resonated with me for so long.

What is that core idea that makes Japan what it is? The idea that people should actually give a shit about what they're doing, that people should strive for excellence no matter what it is they're doing, even if what you're doing is flipping burgers, it's the polar opposite of the west's attitude at the moment.

Japan certainly has it's own problems at the moment, but could they rise like a phoenix from the ashes and the rising sun will shine all over the world?
The same Japanese that are LITERALLY going extinct because JAPANESE men hate sex so much that they stopped having children at a replacement rate 35 years ago?

IMO, Japan basically got hit by a weaker wave of Radfem nonsense, which still put them in that oh so familiar societal tailspin of men now having to compete with woman for the same jobs, driving down wages and birthrates while exponentially increasing profits for a select few.

They have their own problems too but they're still not as corrupted as the west.

The scenario I'm imagining is Japan getting it's groove back and things like the declining birth rate reversing or at least stabilizing more.

One thing to keep in mind though is I've heard "declining birthrate" is actually a meme and that Japan is in fact overpopulated and the birthrate is slowing down because it needs to at least for a while, it's not that big of a country, who says the birthrate needs to just keep climbing and climbing?

At any rate the Japanese are not going to go extinct.

Not literally extinct but it'll be 40% over 65 years old in 30 years and the population is set to go below 71 million by 2060 or so from 125 million today. So a nation composed of very old people with a population less than it was in the 1950s.

What you've heard is kinda true. The rural areas are literally emptying out as everyone floods into Tokyo, Osaka, and a few other hyper cities as the opportunity in Japan in there. So Tokyo is still full as hell, but 200km outside the city it's dying towns and abandoned houses and farms.

Abandoned Japanese countryside sounds like a good place to retire as a filthy gaijin

I think the big tech collapse is coming and it will start with the exodus from Facebook and twitter, when they are exposed for using bots and AI to boost their user counts. When the bots and AI accounts are purged, users will begin to leave the platform as it will seem like a barren wasteland of posts vs pre-bot purge.

Reddit, tiktok, tinder et all will all follow shortly after, creating a huge drop in the value of the company and the share prices.

Maybe I'm a dumb dumb, but I believe Dorsey and Zuckerberg are being kept afloat and propped up by the US government/letter agencies to prevent the tech collapse.

tinfoil hat: Once the tech collapse starts, we will see a 'cyber attack' that knocks the internet down for a few days, to hide the fact that bots have been purged

Absolutely, look at how much personal information people offer on Twatter/Assbook for free. The govt/letter agencies don't have to do nearly as much shit to spy on people with those platforms up and running.

I dunno about the whole internet. I think whatever (((attack))) would happen would be centered around those specific platforms, played off as "angry far-right people" targeting social media exclusively.

I theorized this about a year ago.
I think social society is about crash. Everything that goes along with it. People can't share their feelings because they'll get cancelled and their lives ruined. It'll be the hedgehog dilema en mass in America. We will all retreat into our own little circles and never come out. Its like that now, but just the circle will be small enough just to include yourself and immediate family and that's it. We might not see the full effects of this for another 10-15 years, but it'll be devastating.

I'm projecting my own experiences here. But I feel I can't be the only one like this. People sick of social media, scared to talk with their friends about anything for fear politics might be brought up. Only to poke their heads out in a venue like this.

I think it’s inevitable that the Internet will shrink down to smaller, insular communities over massive centralized platforms. It’ll be a slow process, for sure, but the general public opinion of Facebook/Twitter is ALREADY that they’re toxic cesspits, and people only use them because they’re addicted. Combine that with these platforms becoming more and more unbearable to use every year - existing negative sentiment plus companies constantly reminding their users exactly why they should quit is going to make for an inevitable collapse at some point in the near future (10-15 years is a safe bet).

The “next big thing” has already shown itself - it’s fucking Discord. And while Discord is its own can of worms, it’s inherently a very different platform from any of the social media giants that came before it, as it is by nature very insular with no centralization of content. Because it’s relatively decentralized, it’s also much easier to envision a clone that lets you self-host servers, because outside of high-res streaming (and maybe VC? I’m not a tech expert) none of the shit it does REQUIRES the resources only afforded to massive corporations. I think this kind of neo-IRC is basically the foreseeable future of the Internet.

Matrix / Element is already a clone of discord. And there's also IRCv3, Mumble and other shit. Mastodon is already a Twitter clone and people can create their own microblogging communities.

I think the biggest issue is that all the backend stuff for the internet is becoming more centralized. Those who run the backends are either giant pussies that will cave with the slightest amount of pressure. Or they already have drank the SJW Leftist koolaid and belive that shit. Thus, people with different opinions will be kept from hosting shit.

Besides Element which tehpope mentioned, Urbit's getting WebRTC support soon so it can server as a discock replacement

Unfortunately, I don't think Element solves centralization. Your server can still get DDoSed, your domain registrar can still tell you to fuck off. You suffer from exactly the same vulnerabilities, only you're smaller, so it'll take longer until they get to you, but they will. It will also train registrars and other essential service providers to be more pliable to media pressure, gee, thanks.
You want to be beneath notice and completely independent, which means location independent personal servers and self-host everything. You can't be anyone's client (read: serf). From what I know, only Urbit solves this.
