Some theorize that this guy is some 4channer trying to bring more attention to Sneedacity by acting like a massive retard, but honestly I cannot tell anymore. He may just be a massive attention whore. The threads on this site are indication enough of the possibility.

One project is just full of résumé padders in it for clout and the other is /g/ users on meme aliases. I’d reckon the handful of people from /g/ who know how git works are probably more capable than the other group, but github trannies are going to do their best to find reasons to shut down the sneedacity project; it being rejected from AUR because “but 4chan” is the canary in the coal mine.

Hopefully the more competent guys can continue the fork under a third name without the negative connotations, because an Audacity without telemetry kikery and a modern UX/build process deserves to exist.

The term has oddly become like the classic “fnord”, causing a tactile but vague sense of dread among those not in on the joke. It becomes whatever slur you want it to be.

This CookieEngineer person has clearly had a bug up their arse about 4chan for years and gleefully exploited the opportunity to be the victim.

Crazy person does crazy shit. Whatever. What really bothers me about this is ... that it actually worked. The claims are ridiculous and exaggerated: 600 phone calls? Someone trying to kill you? Really? Over some stupid trolling about a name? 6 phone calls I could believe. Someone putting a box of shit in your mailbox I could believe. But this? Extraordinary claims require at least some evidence.

He really wants us to believe that some trolling over a stupid name escalated to a murder attempt because 4chan people are in fact not people at all but being of pure evil and malice, sent by the dark lord of hell Trump himself, with hearts blacker than the blackest black times infinity. FACT!

This does not pas my sniff test at all, and I'm sick with 16 corona mutations. And even the most casual of looks will reveal it's full of shit.

Yet many people seem to gobble it up uncritically, even smart people. It's not even that I like 4chan: they're a bunch of idiots. But this is just stupid.

I pushed back a bit on the Byuu/Near story when it broke. Tragic as it is, clearly KiwiFarms didn't "drive them to suicide". That was just a silly claim, and the thread is *right there* for anyone to read. It's not even a long one (or at least wasn't until the suicide); it just takes a minimum of effort. But I received sufficient insults and border-line harassment over that that I'm not going to try that again. The irony of it: "well, I don't think this really constitutes harassment", "whaaaaat!!! Let's harass this person until they shut up!!!!"

Wikipedia blacklists links to kiwifarms, so even if the thread is a primary source you can't link to it or mention things in it, eve if they contradict what their "sources" (journos who make shit up on a regular basis) say. And so do many other "reliable" sites.

I don't think stupid is an intrinsic behavior in many cases, but more exhibited behavior.

I've seen far more "harassment" from the woke crowd anyway. The entire reason I even created an account here (years ago, this is a new one) is because of the harassment from these people. It's only gotten worse since then :-/

Anyway, both Tenacity and Sneedacity will be dead projects within a year and everyone will be using Audacity.

I don't know if I'd call The Register MSM. Though they've been a running joke in the tech world for a couple of decades now, so they have about as much credibility as the MSM.

IMO El Reg has better reporting than it appears to have, it's just that the humor turns a lot of people off. They have a few "respectable" spinoff sites like Blocks and Files and The Next Platform aimed at professionals.
