Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

I feel like I'm taking fucking crazy pills. Every single economic indicator has been flashing in bright red scarlet letters for months now: YOU'RE FUCKED.

What on Earth do you mean? Gas is only up ~$2 a gallon since January, we have massive shipping shortages and delays in a bunch of critical sectors, and one of the leading reasons people aren't getting vaccines is because they're afraid they'll get fired if they miss work because of it. Things have obviously never been better.

I feel like I'm taking fucking crazy pills. Every single economic indicator has been flashing in bright red scarlet letters for months now: YOU'RE FUCKED. When their monthly predictions fall flat on their faces, they drag out some decrepit jewish banker with a list of conflicting interests a mile long, or some soyfaced NYU grad who couldn't predict shit falling from a horses ass, to vomit out some market jargon gishgallop on television explaining how "akshually, this time the indicators are wrong because of our magical neolib circular reasoning that only a bigot or a conspiracy theorist would ever contest, so shut up and keep buying on credit, goy". I was a child during the 2008 market collapse so I don't have a frame of reference here. Was the media in full on denial mode before the market shit itself back then too?
I just wish they'd ADMIT THEY'RE CAPABLE OF BEING WRONG FOR ONCE IN THEIR MISERABLE EXISTENCES.

No, because the collapse began during election season and inflating how bad the crash would be was perceived as a good way to ensure Obama won the election. We were hearing Great Depression comparisons all of fall 2008 and the world was about to catch fire according to the media.
Of course, the literal instant Obama was in office and TARP had been passed, they went back to being state propaganda and we got the Tea Party as a result.

I was in High School in 2008 and don't remember shit being bad.

It's amazing how the Democrats are supposed to be the party of minorities, yet every Democratic policy boils down to "black people are stupid and lazy".

Because if you don't think black people are too lazy to vote, this claim makes no sense.

It certainly wasn't good. Biased media coverage aside, several national investment banks went out of business (anyone remember Washington Mutual?), the auto industry went bankrupt, entire town-sized suburbs outside of CA and TX metropolitan areas were emptied and looked like Chinese ghost cities, and whole sovereign states (most notably Iceland/Greece) had national emergencies because of how much their economy was backed by subprime loan packages.
They may have exaggerated with the comparisons but the 2008 crash paved the way for Trump and the current year politics and it'll be fascinating to see how COVID and it's assorted nonsense changes the 2020's. My favorite geo-political wonk George Friedman wrote a book about the coming decade and while I don't know if I agree with all of his predictions, it'll definitely be a tumultuous 10 years.

The gods of supply and demand can not be cheated. Distort the markets all you want, do your little monetary policy song and dance, have the media scream to the heavens how America is Back™️ and that the boot and chocolate numbers have increased by 10%, comrades. The bedrock principles of modern economics will come back around and fuck you in the ass eventually, with interest. Anybody who buys this farce for even a second deserves the financial ruin that's coming for them.

I am actually surprised so many states have done this. Gives me a little bit of hope that the republicans at some level see that they are facing a crisis. Still seems unlikely the gop at the federal level will learn but competent republicans at the state level is way more important. Rather have states telling the feds fuck off than a GOP fed majority who will vote against their voters.

It is funny because the original crash was like 6 weeks before the election, so they absolutely used it to get Obama into office, then in 8 years people realized Obama didn't do shit and Hillary would probably be worse.

If 2020 was the anti-Trump election, 2016 was absolutely an anti-Hillary election.

So 2024 will be the anti-Copmala election.

Even so, I think most of these "new laws" are really just rolling back the "emergency provisions" that were made to vote in the 2020 election.

So the great irony of this is that I don't think Republicans are gaining anything other than the ability to vote like we did in 2016/2018. The Democrats want to keep drive thru voting, no poll watching observers, and mail-in voting with no chain of custody forever since they got away with it in 2020.
