Out of all the popular dramas that have been mentioned for the thread's OP, I'd like to tell you guys about the Beach Brother situation, a drama that shows us that, if your modder of choice has a Twitter account, they're bound to be fucked beyond recognition eventually. This is just for context sake, because this situation is back to bite everyone in the ass for some reason.
Beach Brother was another one of those first few mods to see any sort of popularity because they were released early. It was created by SquizzleDizzle, a 15-year-old (go figure), and the plot is very simple: Boyfriend is hanging out at the beach with Girlfriend when they are intercepted by the local lifeguard, who turns out to be part of the Dearest family and is, for a fact, Girlfriend's older brother.
Despite including animated cutscenes, it's a very standard mod, things were way much simpler back in the day. As far as I know, it had plans for an update, and it also had several alternate designs, including a Minus design drawn by none other IagoAnims, creator of FNF Minus. The reason I am using was its because of the fact that the update was cancelled early in June.
June is just a terrible month to be an edgy 15-year-old and have a Twitter account because, on June 7th, Squizzle dared to, hold it... make a coming out joke on Twitter. I know, I know, you all must be very appalled over such news.Despite including animated cutscenes, it's a very standard mod, things were way much simpler back in the day. Sadly, the Tweet in question was deleted, and only an archived version taken at the very beginning of the drama exists, so you don't get to read any reactions or anything (except for this screenshot featuring BBPanzu the grifter). Supposedly, proof of him hating troons came out, but that screenshot has been messed with, because "they don't want to be hunted down", so it could easily be bullshit.
Not only there was seething on twitter, but his team disbanded (cancelling the BB update in the process), Twitterinas started drawing troon art of Beach Brother "to own the transphobes" (which Squizzle retweeted as a form of damage control), and the BB mod was taken out from the Modding Wiki's Hall of fame (archive from June 5th). This other screenshot also popped up, though I don't know the context of it, or the tweet where it appeared, or if it's even legit, so I'll leave it at that.
So it's July 14th, and other than for archival purposes, why should we care? Well, someone in this community did NOT cancel Squizzle. RealDealAGOTI, musician and main face behind the V.S. AGOTI mod (a mod featuring his self-insert character, which you can watch here), is currently under fire under similar allegations as Squizzle back in the day.
Ignoring the fact that there are both doctored screenshots and missing messaged in these screenshots (which is making me wonder if this Clowfoe person is even trustworthy, as I have never heard about them outside of these two incidents).
I'm not on Twitter, and this is a mod I am not too familiarized with outside of the character designs (and how it was supposed to get two more updates with two more OCs), but apparently the main accusation against AGOTI is that he's an egotistical edgelord and an asshole? It's Twitter, I'm not even surprised, but it is a headache to report anyways, especially since Neato here is making it all about them.
Local black grifter (that is not BBPanzu), Kolsan, decided to add fuel into the fire soon after by making this whole edgelord persona about "hating on minorities" and posting another out-of-context screenshot in which AGOTI admits to dislike Pride Month. See how I could tie this back to Squizzle somehow?
Of course, this means that now V.S. AGOTI, like the Beach Brother mod, have the "controversial" tag at the top of their pages in the Modding Wiki (but hasn't been taking out from the Hall of Fame yet, we'll see if that changes in the next few days). For those that are not aware, the Modding Wiki always gives this tag to any mod who has people associated with drama or are in the center of drama at some point, and it's permanent.
Now, the screenshots that have dates on them all come from June, but these aren't the only ones. After Neato posted his screenshots calling out AGOTI, KadeDev stepped in with proof that, after discussing the subject in private, AGOTI confirmed that, while he disagreed with Squizzle's joke, he just didn't see the kid as the worst human being on the planet (God forbid having a brain, I guess) and he'd rather stay neutral instead of joining everyone on cancelling some kid.
Anyways, that's the gist of this drama. However, there's two sides to this story, and that means that I must close this post with what AGOTI (the guy, not the OC) had to say on this situation. He made two posts on his twitter as soon as the situation happened, one in which he commented about planning to leave the community as soon as his mod projects were finished (without giving any explanation as to why) and, as soon as the drama turned into a dumpster fire, he made the classic "Let's Talk" post with a TwitLonger attached to it.
This drama is still going on, but pretty sure AGOTI, the actual composer, is pretty much cancelled. Hell, this probably got him clowned to hell and back on Twitter just by posting this apology alone, so if anyone wants to dig into it feel free.
This doesn't mean that the mod is fucked, however, as judging by this screenshot by SugarRatio (artist, animatior and creator of the AGOTI character and other OCs), the AGOTI OC will most probably be redesigned and "all's well that ends well", I guess. I also imagine that all the songs composed by the guy will be scrapped and new ones will be made, but this is just me speculating.
