Abstract
Background and objectives: Discord, the instant-messaging software self-purported to center around gaming, has swiftly exploded into a popular format for generalized online chat. Boasting 250 million registered users and over 140 million monthly active users, there are currently more active accounts on Discord than there are white people remaining in the United States. While Discord is well-known for its general versatility, that versatility also extends to an unintended demographic: child molesters. The objective of our experiment was to determine how "welcome" pedophiles are on the platform of Discord while simultaneously measuring what, in actuality, causes gamers to be forcibly removed (or 'kicked') from Discord servers.
Methods: Exactly seventeen 'bait' Discord accounts were generated on the platform using assigned, faked hardwire IDs and differing VPN addresses. Seven were created under the guise of being underage children participating in assorted online games. Ten accounts were disguised as otherwise ordinarily gamers who, after some socializing, would casually imply they have said "nigger." Participants in the study were acquired at random, with each participant already established in seventeen separate video-gaming Discord servers. The population of each server averaged at roughly 103 users with an average of 3 users assigned to administrative roles. Every server contained one additional researcher who did not utilize chat and was merely present to observe the interactions.
Results: Out of seventeen Discord servers, all seventeen contained at least one user (hereby referred to as 'solicitors') who attempted to contact the 'bait' accounts disguised as fictitious children via private messaging. The average number of solicitors per bait account was thirty-six. Out of these solicitors, fourteen were assigned to an administrative role in at least one observed server.
Casual interaction through Discord's private messaging system produced approximately nineteen self-taken photographs (or 'selfies') of the solicitor's genitals. Suggestions of sexual congress were initiated exclusively by solicitors; when asked, all selfie-producing solicitors openly suggested that the genital selfies were meant to serve as a form of enticement. All genital photos received were biologically-male, with only five users identifying as men. Additional sexual activity included inquiries concerning the 'bait' account's genitals, masturbatory habits, home addresses, preferred video games and appearance. This information does not exist and thus was not provided. Three alleged home addresses (as well as invitations to visit) were provided by solicitors.
When records of these sexual private messages were provided to other Discord users assigned to administrative roles within the same server, zero resulted in apparent disciplinary action of the solicitor. All 'child accounts' were summarily kicked from the server while all solicitor accounts remained active members. Out of seventeen servers, two removed the designated solicitor account from their administrative role. An inability to inquire cannot confirm if the removal of this role was due to the accusations and provided proof. All solicitors remained active within the servers.
Eight months after the study's conclusion, Discord's customer service and abuse teams did not reply to any communication providing proof of solicitor misconduct. The solicitors remain active in each server as of this writing.
The ten accounts implied to be of legal age (hereby referred to as 'nigger accounts') remained active within separate gaming-related servers for approximately one month. Researchers were asked to keep conversation light-hearted and cordial while utilizing these nigger accounts. Out of these ten accounts, one was assigned to an administrative role after maintaining private communication with another administrative-assigned user.
After approximately one month (twenty-eight days) of activity, all ten nigger accounts were instructed to seek out the opportunity to convey a specific hypothetical scenario: nigger accounts were to imply they have either personally typed out the word "nigger" in a private message to another user, or imply they have witnessed such a claim and excused it. This scenario was to be mentioned during exactly one instance in a public channel and then 'casually brushed off' per the nigger account's best ability. The nigger accounts did not directly say "nigger" at any point within the channel itself; the slur's usage was strictly implied.
Out of ten accounts, six claimed they had typed "nigger" in personal messages to other users while four claimed to witness (and then excused) it. All ten nigger accounts received disciplinary action by other users in administrative roles. The average time frame between the hypothetical "nigger"-saying scenario and disciplinary action was twenty-two minutes. All video game-related servers were chosen at random and did not obey a set pattern. All researchers lack any scientific credentials whatsoever. One out of two researchers was Australian.
Conclusions: Based upon the observed results, users of Discord are 900% more likely to be banned from gaming-related Discord servers for insinuating they have said the word "nigger" at some point in the past than they are for actively attempting to groom, molest, track down and/or rape children. Aggressively minor-attracted users occupy administrative roles amid Discord servers with alarming regularity; equally common are users who, presumably, choose not to take action against these potentially-dangerous individuals. The average length of a Discord server administrator's penis is 3.2 inches.
