Interestingly, there’s also the R18 aspect of Vtubing that no one but Melody is seriously doing so far with her milk cow Chaturbate. As much as I'm inclined to agree, I do have to wonder how much of it is a result of needing some kind of unique 'pull' that sets them apart.
Like, the gaming, shit-talking, singing, meeting aspects of being a V-Tuber are practically monopolised by Hololive, Nijisanji, VSPO and VSHOJO. VOMS only have Pikamee's occasional viral clip to their name as Tomoshika largely flies under the radar, and the likes of Axel-V, SugarLyric, 774, Tsunderia cannot get a word in now that the market is the way it is.
So I imagine the philosophy for companies now will be 'How do we turn a profit when we enter an oversaturated market?' and the individual answers are likely to be filled with blunders.
Do I think this is a good look for CL? No. Do I think they're scummy if they're forcing this? Yes. But I also think that if CL dial this one back it can be forgiven, because we're probably going to see a lot more of these wild, precarious 'ideas' as new companies vie for their slice of the cake.
I'd like CyberLive to be successful by their own metrics whilst keeping the members safe. It's just a case of not knowing what those metrics are and if they're hitting them.
I’ll say if some JP companies are ballsy enough, they would get some notorious “expired” JAV actresses and turn them into Vtuber like Melody. Heck they also get those “not sell” AKB48 members on the ride as well.
