I do believe at one point Chantal was trying to be "normal" and attain growth and mature. When she left Peetz the first time and upgraded to Bibi (her exotic black status symbol). Not only did this man want to fuck her but he loved her. Up until Malan all the men she'd ever had were losers. The French pedophile, a bum, Peetz who she only shares the most deplorable of qualities with, etc.

She was holding down a normal job and living with a man that she could brag about. We all know Bibi is mediocre at best but to chantal he was the ultimate badge. She had arrived at what some could say was the typical life. However she couldn't maintain it.

Whatever is broken inside chantal that leads her to make the easiest decisions rather than dealing with the hard and uneasy ones lead her down the river of life until we have arrived to where we are now. The scummy pool of hedonistic apathy.

She let it all slowly drain away, and I do believe the YT channel aided in it. Why work hard when you can lay around all day and eat? Why try to communicate with my partner when I can talk to random people right here at my fingertips? They never want me to change. They don't judge me for my closet pizza boxes. She ignored all health issues until she had to have surgery. She lost her black stallion because she couldn't and wouldn't just face herself.
