Religion is often an exercise in community building.

I can only ponder on how socially isolated these spergs would be without their paganism. "Go to church" is unironic life advice for them.

for many, magic (in a broad sense) is also a way of establishing oneself within the community, especially in situations of economic hardship and low education.

The sad truth of it is that this kind of fake and gay ritualism is wholly self-centered and is usually done solo. They may feel like they have a community but it's only online, and they inevitably distance themselves from their peers because of what they do.

As I've said, neopaganism bears a lot of similarities to the prosperity gospel - for instance, they both view God (or their gods) as a genie who will pop out when they say the right words and fulfil their wishes.

I glossed over that part since I felt like it might be too much to explain, but you're very right. It's hard to encapsulate the kind of scorn Anglicans felt for Catholics up until the 50s and 60s when things quieted down mostly. There's just no way that you'd go crypto by being a sect that all of society was obligated to hate.

For example on Guy Fawkes Day, which is a national holiday celebrated basically everywhere in England, they burn a Catholic traitor in effigy. The religious schism is woven that tightly into popular culture that nobody bats an eye at what amounts to a re-enactment of a brutal public execution.

That's not entirely true, it's just there's not as much stupidity coming from the right-wing neopagans since they're heavily suppressed online. We could pretty easily find some Varg-tier LARPagans that are red-blooded masculine men with equally insane spirituality, but finding ones who still have an open platform is harder.
