It’s so a much stupider and simpler reason than that. They simply find it easier to accept that their son who is attracted to men is actually a woman in a man’s body, that to accept that he is gay. They would rather put him through a long and unnecessary transition into female complete with hormones and surgery rather than accept him for who he is. It’s conversion therapy, but they get applause from both the super woke and the super fundie. A few pages up, it was explained how Iran treats gay men, and there are many similarities, although obviously state-mandated transition is far worse.
