Neogaf news update!!

I have been following tthe number of average online users over the past few weeks, seeing what the average trend was so I could report to this thread.

last week the average had fallen to 250 users online, a drop in ~1000 users compared to this time last year.

Today, the average user count is...gone. Tyler has removed it. There is no average user count.

I will triple down on what I've said previously. Neogaf is about to be sold to a bigger player. You heard it here first.

The time is ripe to make a gaming forum that is conservative in approach, without going full farms or storm front.

Most users on Gaf 2020 enjoyed the atmosphere. It was a boys club full of tits, arse and banter, without the over the top sperging about niggers and faggots. It was a good, popular balance.

It only takes one clever person to maneuvre themselves to sit between REE/Gaf and one side and Farms on the other. Make it about gaming, court some devs and voila, popular as fuck website.

It doesnt even have to be conservative, just more relaxed in moderation

After the mass exodus of lunatics, he was trying to rebuild the site by opening it up to some more diverse viewpoints. The people who stayed and were not mentally ill essentially saved his site from certain death.

I think after the cyberpunk fiasco and mass bannings on REEEE, a bunch of them came back to neogaf. Once the user base expanded, all of the people who kept his site alive got kicked to the curb.

the problem is that those people will never accept him no matter how much he moderates his forum. In their minds he will always be a scummy sex pest who is forever cancelled.

They’re right, but at this point the two have enough of a unique style and subject matter that they are, for all intents and purposes, a different medium.

Someone somewhere said it was fake, so they just repeat that. Does that person have any credibility? Is there any reason to believe them? Who even is this person? Who knows, doesn't matter, the latest in this long line of troons being sex pests has been 'debunked' by the internet, so they just claim it's all a lie. Jake Alley's doing the same thing, claiming it's a fake incident with nothing at all regarding proof, but someone on Twitter said it and it fits with their ideology better so they happily embrace it as the 'real story'.

The things they don't mention is just how shit troons have been since, and how that's also behaviour that shouldn't be condoned. But they've convinced themselves that the troons were attacked first, and therefore any action they take as a result, including grievous bodily harm, is therefore justified as 'fighting back against oppression'. This is unsurprising, considering the bloodlust these keyboard warriors display. Like how their end goal for cancel culture is ultimately to get the person to kill themselves because no other step is considered enough repentance, their end goal for everyone they've decided is a fascist is that they deserve death because the only people they'll consider a redeemed fascist is someone who is on their side who gets revealed to have a hidden past of problematic behaviour. Their friends can change. No one else can, they're just putting on a mask to hide their true evil.

To be fair, a lifetime in prison is also something they believe fascists deserve, but the ones who claim to want to abolish all prisons don't like the cognitive dissonance that comes at thinking they wouldn't get to choose who to incarcerate. Resetera notices that Kotaku is becoming as shitty as THEY are, and they don't like it.

I really like hating on Kotaku, and I see them weirdly as a journalist version of Resetera, so I wanted to bring this up here.

Resetera members have been noticing via Twitter that Kotaku has been different lately. Their news titles have been unprofessional and incredibly negative. And pretty much NONE of them like it. More than a few people have drawn direct comparisons to Resetera itself:

But the reason for the change is actually pretty obvious. Not only has "golden boy" Jason Schreier left for Bloomberg, but the site got a new editor in chief.... the infamous Patricia Hernandez. If you've hated Kotaku for very long, you're already familiar with that name. But if not, Hernandez has been responsible for some of the most cringe stories in the site's history. It was so noticeable that people started making fake "Patricia Hernandez articles" for a laugh, to the extent that then-EIC Stephen Totillo had to step up and defend her. This is the one that pushed it over the line for her:

Evidently enough people were believing it was a real article. And who can blame them?

Well, believe it or not, this woman is now the person who is in charge of Kotaku. Did I say woman? I meant tranny. Patricia is a tranny. Recently she wrote an article about how she was going to dismantle and redefine what gaming journalism is (WARNING: actual Kotaku link). What we're finding is that for Patty, "redefine" means cranking the unbearable Gawker snark up to 11.

If that isn't enough, Kotaku just hired Carolyn Petit as a managing editor:

Carolyn Petit is the tranny who wrote the "trans review" of Cyberpunk 2077, where pretty much every point made tied back into the game's treatment of trans people. She's also Anita Sarkeesian's official trans woman for Feminist Frequency's videos and podcasts. Now we can see where she is working to make up for the fact that Anita doesn't pay her anymore.

I just find it funny that the message board ruled by troons has grown to hate the gaming news site ruled by troons. They really do ruin everything. It's especially bizarre because I consider Kotaku to be the premier website for social-justice-infected news. Resetera should have been all over that.
