Really? But they specifically say that Wayne Beckett confirmed the death. They didn't mention cross-checking with anyone else or checking employment records (which again, would come through Wayne Beckett because everything has to come through either Wayne Beckett or Hector Martin, I guess). And sure, I could give journalists the benefit of the doubt, but in that same article they blame us for Chloe Sagal's death when Chloe herself pointed the finger at the transgender community instead.

If they'd said they cross-checked the employment records or double-checked with literally anyone else involved that would've been enough, but they didn't do that.

Near's employer was no longer trustworthy once it became clear that he was the same one parading around a photo of his dead friend's urn on a cyberbullying site and then verbatim "congratulating" us for killing him.

Mr. Martin, no, I do not necessarily think that press writers do much due diligence on the stories they publish anymore. So many "news stories" nowadays are comprised of merely statements and tweets. It's how there was that rash of news stories about the anti-sex cardboard beds in the Olympic Village a couple days ago - based on a tweet made in jest, with no further research done to check whether it was actually true, then echoed from publication to publication. The press is lazy, and/or the press lies to meet an agenda. This happens constantly, from both the left and the right.

Look, I agree that the story we're building here defies Occam's razor. I don't really see what Mr. Beckett (or you, for that matter) would have to gain by knowingly lying about this. But on the other had, there is still this massive hole where a Japanese news article (which is not a mere translation of one of the English ones), a death report, anything should be. And you and Mr. Beckett seem to have the opportunity to fill that hole and make us look - and feel - like complete assholes. And you're not, and I can't figure out why if both of you despise us so much.

• Can you provide a death certificate or some other sort of government-issued document certifying Mr. Ginder's death?
• Can you provide an original article by an established Japanese news source about Mr. Ginder's death?
• Can you, or Mr. Beckett, provide more information about the urn photo? Why were Mr. Ginder's remains in such a cheap urn? Where was that photograph taken? Who took the photo and who are the other people with them?

The only "evidence" that exists at this time is a bunch of "dude trust me" statements and uncritical parroting of "dude trust me" statements. The level of evidence needed hasn't changed, it's always been as low as just a public statement from David's family confirming it. If they don't want to do that then that's fine.
