Tabletop Roleplaying Games (D&D, Pathfinder, CoC, ETC.)

Thought this was great.

Make no mistake, the guys ordering all these changes to established settings, characters and races would want nothing more than to drop Forgotten Realms like a hot potato and go all-in on a new setting they could build up from scratch following their current "standards" for acceptable content. Maybe even buy the rights to Critical Role's Tal'Dorei setting, just to capitalize on CR's status as introductory content for D&D. But they can't do it yet. They can't drop Forgotten Realms, it's too popular for it, so instead they'll just continue butchering the setting until its mangled corpse more or less fits inside the case they want to display it in.
Based coomer setting

I personally don't like Eberron, I feel it tried too hard to be "unique" and stopped feeling like D&D. And that was in 3.5e, back when "feeling like D&D" was important. But I won't call it a bad setting. It's just a setting I don't like.

But Eberron has one big problem: it never caught on. There are a few people who love Eberron, but despite a couple big pushes to make it a flagship product it could never compete against Forgotten Realms. If even an old and established setting like Greyhawk, which was picked to be the default setting for 3.5e and therefore something everybody should be familiar with at least in passing (and which I personally think is easier for beginners to grasp), couldn't beat Forgotten Realms, a "quirky" newcomer like Eberron didn't stand a chance. The Realms are just that popular, even if you discount every other reason for its popularity, simply due to inertia.

I can't wait until they start rewriting the POD files for AD&D
I always thought of my alignment as "I do what I do because I must, and because it's fun." Though my mage always followed the law, at least in public.

I always thought of my alignment as "I do what I do because I must, and because it's fun." Though my mage always followed the law, at least in public.

In my campaigns, I introduce a 3rd axis of alignment, "Asshole", that exists independent of all other alignments. You slide further along the asshole line when you do things that adhere to your alignment, but any reasonable person would be "wow, what an asshole move"
(also "Good" is more about 'external' motivations and Evil is more about 'internal' motivations )

The evil end of the alignment is overweight with assholes, but it is possible to be a Lawful Good Paladin who slaughters an entire village of demon worshippers including the children and still be Lawful Good....just sort of an asshole.
Conversely, if the evil overlord is applying his ironfisted rule fairly....maybe he's just sort of out to collect power for himself, but not that big of an asshole.
Since most chaotic neutrals don't want to play chaotic neutrals, they want to play assholes.

Because lets face it, we all know this is the true alignment chart.

What is thread opinion on what a nat20 do outside of combat? Is 4chan retarded again or is it a broken clock sort of deal?
A natural 20 on a skill roll simply means you add 20 to your modifiers when trying to beat the DC. Nothing more, nothing less. With 5e's bounded accuracy compressing DCs so you don't have to roll against DC 40+ checks at higher levels, a nat 20 will likely result in you passing the check anyway.

The comic linked on the OP is a different kind of stupid, though. Social interactions in 5e (and yes, that includes seduction) don't just boil down to a single roll of the die, and the results depend on the character's arguments and the target's attitude, personality, means and motivations. The elf-hating tavern wench who's faithful to her husband won't jump on your elf bard's dick just because you winked and her and rolled a 18. At most that score will prevent you from getting clobbered upside the head with a heavy tankard. A peasant covered in pig shit won't get the king to bequeath him his crown just because he asked nicely and rolled really high either. He might get away from it without being executed for being so brazen, though. And if you try to roll to seduce the Chaotic Evil villainess and succeed? You might get spared while the rest of your party dies horribly... but then spend the rest of your life as someone's fuckdungeon sex toy.

Trove probably wont be coming back up. It's better to find another source for your .pdfs. Personally, if he's too stupid to put the Do Not Share files on his trove he deserves to be kept down.

By the way, go to the /tg pdf share thread, not the /tg thread.

I once seduced a female adult red dragon. Went sort of well for me. I got an awesome mount but had to deal with a wife similar to the one you'd see in those "girlfriend/ wife takes vengeance" movies except on a more epic scale. That's okay though. I usually didn't need to be in a city and we always played the game of "who makes the larger explosion". Sucks that when I left the universe when it was being destroyed I couldn't take her with me. When the next world was about to be destroyed I luckily had no one worth taking with me.

Eberron is only a thing because WotC held a contest for people to submit their own setting ideas, and the winner got the setting published officially. Some of the creators of the runner-ups got to be writers for various splatbooks in 3.5, though their settings where never used(note that WotC owned all rights to the settings sent in for the contest and you cannot sell said settings to 3rd party publishers or anything)

I always preferred Kingdoms of Kalamar for 3.0. Eberron was okay. I liked the feats for the dragonmarks and some of the creatures. I also liked how they made their technology worked. Reminded me of some clockwork setting books. I wanted to do a campaign combining ideas from Eberron and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress and add some other clockwork settings to it.

Yeah, I remember all that. They did make a couple pushes for Eberron back then, although now that I think about it they might have been contractual things. Either way, the setting did have a few interesting ideas, but I don't think it ever went beyond a niche market. I would wager there are more speds asking for Planescape than Eberron these days.

Even the /tg pdf share doesn't have a mega (or equivalent link) for Pathfinder so i'm shit out of luck getting the pdfs and i don't have the money or space for the books so that's annoying

I wouldn't mind going back to Sigil, but I'm afraid the Lady of Pain would be turned into the Lady of Hugs. They're already starting work on the area in terms of "lore" for 5th Edition.

What do you need for Pathfinder?
Also did you check the pdf that's linked to the top of every /tg pdf share thread for a mega or similar site?

My memory stick with my pathfinder pdf files got corrupted so i lost everything, i had all the offical books plus all Society scenarios plus a huge amount of 3rd party files lost in a few seconds
Yes i did look up Da Archive and Da Curated Archive and all i found is an empty mega link

You need current edition or older?

What are the funniest results of a failed roll you've seen?
  • A seduction attempt on a demon resulted in the player getting raped
  • A non-stealth character's attempt to stealthily strangle a guard blew the cover for the whole party
  • A ninja tried to jump off a building and broke both legs
  • The entire party got their asses kicked by a mob of street urchins

The subject comes up a lot in my gaming circle of what setting would I like to see adapted for 5e and I always answer "none because I have no faith in WotC being able to make a good adaptation". What they've done with Ravenloft hasn't helped change my opinion.

Failing my climbing check to get away from the half-orc who wanted to rape my elven bard. I didn't sleep that night. Like come on, who has heard of an elf that climb?

In terms of the GM failing? My Magus casting Blindness/ Deafness on the big bad boss only to fail the save making the encounter easy.
