Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

FFS...this means then any time there is any (and I mean ANY) disturbance in the capitol, then that person can be categorized as an "armed insurrectionist" since most people are likely carrying pens on them.

There's an eviction crisis on the horizon and the Dems are eager to argue the vaccines don't help enough to avoid having to do mask mandates again. I've gotten to hear branch Covidians argue that governors like Desantis were terrible for not allowing their towns to require masks again.

I can't imagine people caring about the unauthorized tour of the capitol more than the shit they're going to be dealing with in their own lives.

I mean, this is really what they want. Change the definitions of things to allow you to apply laws in originally unintended ways, then use selective application of the law to turn anyone who isn't cooperating with you into an enemy. This is why just letting definitions of things be changed wanton is dangerous, and I look forward to it backfiring on the dems horribly.

I wonder if they're trying to set up a progressive (but fast) restoration of lockdowns to get good court case to prop the eviction restrictions back up.

Doomed long term plan though, tenant protections only work as long as the house is owned by the landlord. With how hard they're getting fucked, landlords are gonna start cashing out, and you can't stop that with anything they have currently. Trying to stop it would probably be a nightmare.

Their rhetoric on vaccines and the virus has been schizophrenic lately as they've been trying to argue vaccines are a panacea and also that they barely make a difference.

So I doubt there's any sort of plan. It comes across more as the media fear mongering and Dem politicians and figures like Fauci just going along with it to get more TV interviews. It's like they've gaslit themselves into believing getting vaccination numbers close to 100% would mean the virus would be eradicated from society and getting proven wrong with the Delta variant is breaking their brains.

Politically, it's the shotgun approach. They have no idea what could possibly work so they are throwing literally everything at the wall, just a big ol shotgun blast hoping something strikes and they can focus on it.

It is always a political move of last resort, when all pre-planned paths lead to failure and its deemed the damage done by the bad shots will be less than the good of finding literally any path that works.

That implies they wanted the pandemic to end. Corona-Delta-chan has them splooging themselves all over again. More money and power for them.

Their solution to being proven wrong is always doubling down.

I can't be bothered to give a shit, but that's because this was preceded by six or so straight months of riots that plenty of people seemed to give a free pass to. When I told my more left-leaning friends this, they always brought up the "more noble" cause behind their approved rioting, to which I replied, "I don't give a crap about the motivation, I give a crap about the rioting - one more doesn't matter at this point."

I honestly think they do want it to end, but they've listened too much to representatives of the pharmaceutical companies that said the mRNA vaccines could seriously do away with the common flu.

It's a bit like what happened with Theranos, the blood testing company, they sold people on this idea that they were super high tech and could do all this amazing stuff which convinced all sorts of politicians and military guys because they love the idea of supporting the expensive cutting edge technology. I figure it's similar with the new vaccines, the politicians haven't really thought through if the claims being made were exaggerated and are trying to rationalize how the claims could still be true because they sold everyone including themselves on the idea that the virus could be completely eliminated from the world.
