In WW2 the government did nonsense things like selling war bonds, asking people to collect scrap metal etc. A great example is New York's dimouts.
In the 1940s New York City went dark, with defense officials realizing that New York's glow was a big threat after Pearl Harbor.

Yes the government ordered black outs to make life harder for enemy bombers. The fact neither the Japanese or Germans had the capability of bombing the American mainland in 1942 let alone 1945, was besides the point. The aim was to focus the public away from helplessness to feeling they were 'doing their part' for the war effort, even if what they were doing was pointless and retarded.
Masks are proven to be completely useless at stopping transmission of viruses outside of very controlled environments were N95 or P100 respirators that can be used properly by trained professionals.

This study was published SEVEN months ago and conclusively proves that whether you wear or mask or don't wear a mask makes no difference to Covid transmission. But governments all over the world insist their citizens wear them. I have agency and I'm empowered because I wear a mask, I'm doing my part to fight Covid. It's psychology 101.
Most retarded thing that's happened to me was when I was in a hardware store about a year ago. They put signs up limiting the number of people allowed per aisle, because reasons. But even better they'd split the aisle in two with tape, 2 people on one side an 2 on the other. I wandered past a dude who was waiting at the end of the aisle to buy some nails and he went ape shit.
"What the fuck are you doing! Can't you see I'm waiting in line for the aisle to clear? You mother fucker! You trying to kill people."
There was only 2 people in the aisle but I'd gone down the wrong side. I stepped one foot to the other side, and he was like "yeah that's better, don't try that shit again"
Goes without saying he was a boomer.
