I'm starting to think a lot of people LOVE being told what to do and have some weird emotional fetish for rules, mandates, and virtue signaling. it's the only explanation I can think of for why so many people seem to get off on how "good" they are for following The Ever-Changing Goalposts of the Science.

In WW2 the government did nonsense things like selling war bonds, asking people to collect scrap metal etc. A great example is New York's dimouts.

This study was published SEVEN months ago and conclusively proves that whether you wear or mask or don't wear a mask makes no difference to Covid transmission. God damn this one makes my blood boil, because they did this to all of the stores in my town. They closed off all of the doors except 1 at a time, and everyone's forced to use it for entry and exit. There's a fucking CVS near my house that had 2 sets of automatic doors -- an entrance and an exit. Get this: they closed the 2nd door, and force everyone to use the 1st door -- but they disabled the automatic functionality of the door, and instead we're manually forced to open the door with our hands!!! There's a sign on the door which says something like "Due to Covid restrictions, the automatic door has been disabled, please open with your hands" whilst the 2nd door remains locked shut.

This is retarded beyond all logical comprehension.

Most retarded thing that's happened to me was when I was in a hardware store about a year ago. They put signs up limiting the number of people allowed per aisle, because reasons. But even better they'd split the aisle in two with tape, 2 people on one side an 2 on the other. I wandered past a dude who was waiting at the end of the aisle to buy some nails and he went ape shit.

The saddest part is the old ones get depressed due to lack of social interaction and die sooner and more miserable too. So... lose-lose.

Not to mention... imagine not being able to comfort your relatives during a funeral etc. This stuff is just anti-human.

My grandmother was starting to lose her memory before the pandemic, but social interaction with family and in the community was certainly helping to stave off its decline.

When the pandemic started, and we were all told to stay inside, only her carers were visiting her. This was a right drop down from her previous multiple visits every week to an elderly people's centre where she'd get to engage in activities to keep her mind alert and interact with other people, and of course family visiting her each week too.

We made sure that we were each trying to speak to her every day on the phone, but it really wasn't long before conversations started to grind to a halt - her responses becoming less and less involved, simple 'yes/no/I don't know' answers to questions rather than anything with any elaboration. It was a really quick decline, probably only a few months. It was inevitable anyway - there's no cure for Alzheimer's, but you can try to stop its progress.

She eventually had to go into a care home. The policy in the care home when visiting was no more than two family members at a time, and you must wear a face mask, a thin plastic apron, and gloves whilst visiting residents. She died not very long ago.

I didn't have a clue what a scam this whole pandemic was when my grandmother was still living at home. I believed the propaganda and followed the rules for the most part, because I had literally no other sources telling me anything otherwise to suspect anything; I never really visited this part of the farms until earlier this year when I believe the Chauvin case was frontpaged. I had reservations about some things to do with the pandemic, sure. Batwoman pinky promising her lab couldn't have leaked it sounded like bullshit to me, but, hey, the whole world saying it was natural spillover can't be wrong, right?

When my family and I were visiting my grandmother in her last few weeks, I told my family to fuck off with following the nonsense rules. Fuck the mask, apron, gloves, two at a time bullshit. It wouldn't make a lick of fucking difference except that my grandmother would have all of her family surrounding her and actually be able to tell who we were in her final moments. Her memory luckily wasn't far enough gone that she couldn't recognise us, but wearing all of that nonsense, probably would have trouble.

I don't think I would have followed the rules anyway, in her last moments, but my family would have. I used this thread to explain why more or less all of the rules and laws and guidance have been absolute bullshit to my family, and after initial hesitations, they said fuck it too.

So a big thank you to everyone here who has contributed, for opening my eyes. I only wish I'd found this thread sooner, but I'm glad I found it full stop. If it weren't for the farms, I'd still be absolutely clueless. It's not like you can even research any misgivings you might have, as anything you try to look for has been helpfully fact checked to be fake news, and talking about it to people gets you labelled as a conspiracy theorist. Idgaf anymore, though, social ostracisation or no. I'm done with being told how to act and think. The university I will be attending this coming year sent out an email today saying, following CDC recommendations, they will begin to require masks in doors. Yes, this comes after 4 months of telling students they have to be vaccinated to attend, and that with those vaccinations campus life will return to normal.

What makes this a clown show is: (1) the CDC statement on masks in doors is linked to a county map of the US with color coded community spread rankings (e.g. yellow for mild, red for substantial, etc.), and the statement only applied to the counties with substantial or greater community spread. The county the university is in does not meet the CDC standard for masking, though. And (2) in the email saying you will have to mask in doors, they also say there will be no mask requirement in student dorms because "there is a significantly lower risk of exposure for high-risk individuals."

Yes, you read that right.A large lecture hall with spaced seating is now more dangerous than a freshman dorm where students will be sharing alcohol, kissing each other, sharing joints and bongs, and having sex. It's so fucking obvious that this is a transparently political directive that, if extended to college students in their dorms, would result in a massive parental backlash. Yet when I try to bring up how ridiculous it is that they are instituting new restrictions, how this presages actual restrictions like closing student spaces, restricting attendance to sports games, not opening libraries or campus gyms fully, etc. I'm told "Dude, it's just a mask."

My pops has copd and breathing has got alot worse since lockdown ended and the parents have been out and about but wearing masks. Months went past just lounging in the garden or going out but not actually going in anywhere and he was doing ok.
