The Final Fantasy Thread

Nah, I'm just goofing on him.

IIRC, Nomura admitted that he has a poor grasp of characters from before his time. That's why he was reluctant to write Setzer into KH: he was afraid he wouldn't do the character justice. (Which turned out to be the case.)
Nomura has a poor grasp on characters and writing in general. He's the Chris Carter of video games.

Going back to 12 for a second: I think Ivalice is ripe for an MMO. I would actually consider trying that one out. I don't ordinarily play MMOs. Also, there are a lot of plot threads left dangling in 12.

You need to add some familiar elements and characters to reel me in. I find 14 impenetrable and hard to understand.

Edit: It says here they've started to introduce Bangaa raids and other stuff.
There is a lot of FF12/FFT in FF14 currently. FF14 introduces a new addition to the FFT ending.

There's an entire 24 man raid series, coupled with a gigantic Ivalician inclusion in 14's Shadowbringer Relic Chain plus a fair amount of other references. The rumor is that it's going to stop but it they're setting so many things up I can't see them doing it.

Managed to beat that Chocobo trial on about the 20th attempt. After never getting within half a second of the target time I looked for a way to cheese it, ran against the barrier for the whole course, moved back to the middle right at the end and beat it first time with a second to spare. Grade A game design there lads.

Saw a stream of FF1 remaster:

Difficulty is somewhere between PSX Remake and GBA. The difficulty curve is more forgiving. Level 4 to beat Garland (he still wants to knock you down) and Level 14 at Marsh Cave, first tough enemies you meet are after you get the ship.

Status effects like paralysis and poison seem to matter a lot more here

Diagonal movement

Items have been added to restore your spell charges and added in dungeons to make your trek easier.

lol you can get pheonix downs for 500 gil

The auto-attack enemy after one is defeated is here

Equipment's prices are reduced to be more forgiving, however spells are still fucking expensive.

The music is great in this game.

Most the pixel art for the characters/monsters are faithful to the nes version, while the rest psx/gba. I think the battle backgrounds are new. nope, same as gba/psx.

Forced encounters with normal monsters are now NPC's you can talk to fight, noticeably the Hall of Giants in Cavern of Earth.

The fix for the font is already here

HERE LIES LINK

About to go into the Tomb of Raithwall in FFXII.

Still a kool game, becoming obsessed with building perfect gambits. Such a neat system.

Grinding away at the early Lhusu Mines since the 4x speed thing is a godsend honestly in my ancient boomer of age of nebulous early/late 30s where I can't invest this kind of time anymore into games like I used to.

The Star Wars episode 4 plot is really in gear right now, nothing really new for a FF game I guess, but I'm fine with a nice little tale of rebels against an empire.

When does it start to fall apart and Squeenix's influences begins to drag the game down like I keep hearing from super dorks like that guy from Socks Make People Sexy who seems to have his head up his academic ass? This is the furthest I've gotten so far and I'm happy if it just continues being a Star Wars ripoff as is.

Once I beat this, that just leaves base game XI and XIII as the only main ones I haven't beaten yet (I count completing A Realm Reborn for beating FF14. I'd like to really see the expansions since my husband is obsessed with it and tells me its like a great love letter but man I just feel overwhelemed when I pick it back up anymore).

I wound up spending the two hours of free time I had before I had to go pick up the husband just grinding at 4x speed in the floating mines, was able to level everyone from level 13-15 to 28-30 and most of their license boards are filled now, bought every gambit and every spell available atm lol (99 skeleton bones gets you a couple ten thousand gil easy).

I remember why I gave up earlier back on the PS2, the games dungeons are very long and everyone hustles at a lieasurly pace. I find myself usually with the 2x speed on at least when out in the field. Tighter map designs would be prefered but I don't mind the speed option for grinding.

People keep citing the Tidus laugh as one of the cringiest moments in the series, but never the ff13 "Moms are tough" line.

Played through FFX multiple times since HD collection, and that laugh isn't that bad in context. Silly, but I think it's more intentionally goofy than bad.

Hell for a early PS2 dub, it's solid overall even if the audio engineers did weird shit like speed up dialog to make it match the lips.

I'm biased though because I really love X's world and story, especially the dynamic between ReJecht Tidus and Jecht.

I haven't touched FF13 much since it came out. I remember thinking it told its story poorly, or gave out info poorly. Some nerd I worked with had to tell me theres some in game guide you have to read. Yuck.

Do really like FF13-2 though. Overall story is stupid, but the individual little timeline plots are fun and they fixed the gameplay up a lot to make it more playable than base 13.

I want to enjoy Lightning Returns but that time limit is too much.

YES, WE’RE GONNA PUT THE MARY SUE ABOVE CHARACTERS LIKE CELES AND ZACK, BECAUSE OUR OPINIONS ARE FUCKING TRASH
I see Lightning as a media creation. Everybody was instructed on how to like her, and why.

As annoying as the time limit is, they give you plenty of opportunities to use Chronostasis, so you can get a decent amount of things done without having to worry too much. What made me drop Lightning Returns was the fight against Caius, which is especially bullshit because grinding doesn’t do jack shit in this game and Caius apparently gets stronger the more you put off his fight. Years later and I still have no idea how you’re supposed to get past him other than sheer luck.
