A gimmick account can appear in many forms, either by pretending to be a character from a piece of media, posting about a specific subject (Ex. Halo facts), etc. Gimmicks can be pretty annoying to some people, hell Null made it a rule in 2014 to not be one.

But they all must follow the unwritten rule: stick to your gimmick... or atleast try to. Enter the Twitter gimmick account 'community'.

I think this is the first thread on Kiwifarms I've seen mention Lori - that e-girl who ran E-Girls Posting Ls for two days. For those unaware, she was a content leech on Twitter best known for repeatedly trying to harass video game composer Hideki Naganuma and selling pictures of her saggy, fat tits on Twitter. She also tried to have her cake and eat it by endorsing minors to follow her on Twitter despite posting softcore pornography of herself frequently and saying it's okay for them to do it so long as they "scroll past" her pornographic tweets (I apologize for the archive being of Google's cached version of the tweet, her Twitter was suspended).
As a contribution to the thread, here's her sending a picture of her tits to someone who didn't know her and used to interact with another former mod of the account before Lori decided to stalk DMs and likely look at very personal messages.

There's an account called "L-accounts posting Ls" on Twitter now. That's how meta this is. The posting-L accounts post the occasional funny, but that's only because they aren't actually LARPing.

Lots of Tumblrites seemed to have started gimmick accounts as a way to roleplay but pretend it was activism. They are so fucking unfunny. This shit got really pervasive in 2020, but there are definitely several examples before that of how gimmick accounts were unfunny and shitty for years. (One was called "incel cow" that just spammed "mooooo" under tweets that disrespected ye faire m'lady.)

Solid OP, the "Twitter Gimmick Account Meta" was autistic from the start. I have no idea if you'd be able to find it at this point, but John Swan pre-Dream had gotten into a slapfight with a Santa gimmick account that would tweet whether or not this or that YouTuber / Twitch streamer was on the naughty or nice list. Swan also about a month or so ago made some bigass thread exposing @CommentaryWs as some small commentator who was using the account to boost himself.

(I really don't know what it is with John Swan and constantly engaging in this level of petty-shit-no-one-cares-about, especially after it's what got him into the Pieman situation. The "small commentary community" might as well be the next Entersphere it's so full of spergs.)

Gimmick accounts are the easiest way to build followers so it should not be a surprise that many people make them with the intent of using them as soapboxes for their own politics. Kind of genius really, why bother with original content when you can make your account about an established IP or to repost a certain type of content and when ready just post "X say transrights" and see those sweet likes flow.
