Federal moratorium on evictions and foreclosure officially expires today! Que the shrill shrieking and wails of millions of people who must now pay what they fucking owe or end up on the street.

Not gonna lie, the thought of all those people who will find themselves on the street, regardless of failing to meet their financial obligations, makes me pretty sad.
I hope better fortunes find them soon.
I got a job delivering fucking pizzas during COVID and kept paying my rent. It's what allowed me to finally buy a house. Anyone who took the dole and didnt use it to at least stay current on their obligations deserves what they get.

What worries me is just how much moral hazard has accrued in the economy because of this program.

Already have a few tent cities near me. Expecting a large bump soon sadly.

Props to all the people who kept working or found jobs doing something to keep the roofs over thier heads. Hope the ones who tried hard but are still going to get pushed out find a new place or are able to go to family. I respect the hard work even if you initially failed. That attitude will pay off in the long run in life.

All the people who exploited the system and just stopped paying rent all together are fucked though. Eviction is a massive black mark and 99% of places won't rent to you with it on your record. All the money is still due and only bankruptcy will remove it. (And just like eviction, good luck finding a place with that over your head.)

As someone who is close to landlords who have been getting stiffed by deadbeat tenants taking advantage of this, even though they never lost their jobs during the pandemic, fuck them.

I find myself having to argue with friends who hate landlords, yet can't grasp the concept that they exist for a reason and most of the people that they rent to are retards who deserve no pity or sympathy.

All I'll say is that if you knew you were getting thrown out months ago, knew you had bills to pay, had opportunities to get work and pay it off, and STILL sat on your ass or made excuses, I hope the local homeless collective make you sleep on the shittiest part of the pavement. You deserve it for being that stupid.

I mean, all jokes aside, I'm not getting any coherent narrative for this whole mess. I glanced around Reddit, and to the surprise of no one, they're blaming capitalism and saying this would never happen if we just adopted Maoism in America. There's also a lot of smug neoliberals gloating that this only affects QAnon boomers in red states, because blue states and cities will use government funds to protect tenants and extend their moratoriums. And literally no one is blaming this on Biden whatsoever.

To be fair the program started under Donald Trump. It's also bullshit, and a flagrant 4th amendment violation. It's basically the government giving over your property to someone else by decree. It should never have been implemented in the first place and the economic consequences of all these rents going uncollected could be catastrophic.

I kept a job pretty much this whole time, and it felt like I was a fucking sucker most of the time, but the longer I've stuck with it the more it's paid off - I have tons of leverage at work because I'm a senior there after only like a year, my wages are higher than they've ever been, and the benefits are greater than ever before.

Neoliberals make me sick, and if they think cities and blue states are going to side with poor losers vs people who actually have money and pay taxes, they have a bad day ahead of them
