One thing that has been pointed out in the past is that Chris, during some times, DID "deactivate" from the public and the trolls went and found him anyway. I think it's a massive stretch to claim that he 'thrives' in the public eye and I simply cannot imagine how anyone would think all of this has done him better than the autistic but quiet life he probably would have led without it.

But while being gaslit for over a decade may excuse some of his relatively harmless 'eccentricities' it doesn't excuse this shit. Maybe, in a different world without the internet, Chris would not have decided to fuck his mother (maybe). But that doesn't mean it's not his fault that in the world he found himself in, he did.

As much as he may have delusions and mental issues, those delusions sure seem to tend towards things he wants. If he had a dog-voice in his head named Sam telling him that he had to cut off his own fingers, and he did so while sobbing because he was truly compelled, that would be one thing (this may have been the case with the Wise scenario). But it's often delusions that make him feel important or feed into his desires. There's nothing in those texts or audio that makes me think anything pushed him into this. And I'm not sure it matters. At some point it becomes impossible to separate incurable 'mental illness' from what someone is because it's all wrapped up in the mind, anyway. There's a reason lobotomies were at first hailed as a great step forward...

If Virginia has a terrible loophole on the books they've not bothered to fix or notice, Chris-Chan could end up as the state's own version of the aptly-named Kentuckian Cane Madden.

TL;DR Madden, a psychotic serial rapist who has continually preached about how he'll fuckin do it again while in custody, got to repeatedly walk completely free on the streets due to a loophole regarding involuntary commitment and mental incompetence to stand trial. It got so bad people in the area he lived were arming up. Madden is the reason why Kentucky lawmakers got off their ass and changed it.
