The worst part about this whole ordeal is that no matter which angle that you try to look at it, the gravity of Chris's crimes are insurmountable to even the most generous interpretation of "benefit of the doubt."

Even if you wanted to give Chris the absolute benefit of the doubt in every possible sense of the word and assume that Barb groomed Chris in years past and therefore Chris thought it was appropraite despite Barb being senile, there's still so many other things to consider here.

Chris stole a substantial sum of money from Barb shortly after being served the protective order and admitted to having full control over Barb's bank accounts. This puts into question the entire narrative that Barb is the one with toxic debt and that Chris is actually more prudent than he lets on. For all we know, maybe he's been stealing from Barb ever since Bob died. That fundamental barrier of trust we put into Chris for not being an inherently malicious person wound up becoming a shield that protected him by casting the blame onto a more "suitable" target.

Even if we try to attribute the most possible blame on Barb, Chris's crimes still invariably outweighs Barb's. Barb helped create the monster and I'm sure that she's done a lot of fucked up shit to both Chris and Cole over the years. However, Chris himself is an adult who despite his autism, is capable of understanding the concept of "this will get me in trouble" vs. "this won't get me in trouble."

The level of secrecy he implored everyone he confided in (indirectly or otherwise) wasn't just a red flag for Chris doing something fucked up; it was a red flag marking that our entire understanding of Chris after Bob died is fundamentally broken.

Chris spent most of 2011-2015 off of the internet. Who the fuck knows what happened in that time, but I'm willing to bet that somewhere in that time frame is when Chris realised that he's the one who has the power now.

Chris is a narcissist. They live to abuse empathy. This is why I think we all feel for null. Say what you want about the guy but he genuinely tried to help, even with Chris flinging autismo monkey shit at his efforts.

Barb absolutely carries a huge share of the blame for not bringing Chris to therapists during his childhood. Then again, Barb herself is a narcissist too.

Barb made her bed.

Now she has to lay in it.

Hopefully without the fat man who wears a model magic medallion.

Damn. Null, I’m really sorry. That whole conversation is awful and transparent in hindsight, but I can’t blame you for thinking MAYBE he got a girlfriend.

At this point, I’m torn between disgusted crying and laughing. I think I’ll settle for a scalding shower, for now.
