This is an excellent point. I have done civil legal aid in bongland a number of years back. Slightly fewer oedipal autistic lardarses and slightly more of the terminally stupid and annoying variety. But I did once represent a pyromaniac swinger.

You know, if I were in that public defender's position? I would absolutely defend the fuck out of it. I would treat it as a sort of bonus boss of criminal defence. I would take every point, assess every last piece of evidence, argue every point of law, and do everything I could to make it so that even if Chris is found guilty, nobody can possibly say that he didn't get a fair fucking trial.

I think you're right about Chris not having any internal shame about this. He told Null that he wanted him to figure out who his new girlfriend was. No shame detected there, but he still knew to keep it a secret. In the audio, Bella reminds him that there are "social pressures" on the incest, so there you go.
