Have you ever sat at a cafe? Or a restaurant? Were you ever bored at school and glanced around at your classmates? Chances are that you have made judgements on those people that you have observed: observations that may have sparked some kind of dialogue in your head, or consideration of a plethora of topics that link to your said observation of that person or people.

Some observations are shallow and stupid, like "oh weird, that persons hair is green" or "ew, she chews gum with her mouth open, i can almost hear the squishing sound!", but sometimes, one idea can lead to another, and at least for myself, the simple glance at a persons ripped jeans can cause a sequence of thinking that allows me to realize aspects of Diogenes and his philosophy, and the particular ways it affects our subtle resistance to acclimating to the modern world. You may not agree with me on that but that's not really the point.

The thing is, observing weird people live out their lives and do random bullshit is fascinating, because it causes the viewers to consider facts about our own lives and society that we may not have considered otherwise. That is how philosophers develop theories, artists create their scenes, comedians write their jokes. Kiwi Farms happens to be a place where one can find similar people who share interests with one another, which in this case, happens to be a Youtuber who is addicted to opium and really bad at debating Blaire White.

Ehhh I think that's more to do with the "alt right" becoming less relevant and the initial novelty of "Oh my god a self aware trans YouTuber who makes intelligent and well produced video essays" has worn off. Also Contra's creative output has dropped - in 2019 there was a video almost every month, and now Contra hasn't released anything in six months and keeps going "Maybe tomorrow you guys!"

Contra has been featured in High Snobeity and The Guardian this year, so it's not like Contra is toxic and mainstream media doesn't want to touch with a bargepole

The thing I can really never forgive Natalie for is that she takes down effective, good videos she already made in order to gild the lily. Example: "Gender Dysphoria" vs. "Autogynephilia." Listening to fuckin' Peter Coffin voiceovering "The Man who Would Be Queen" for 15 minutes in "Autogynephilia" was so much less effective than 15 seconds of Nick holding back tears and looking into the camera, saying nothing in "Gender Dysphoria". Those old videos managed to say more while talking less, and they were also more inventive (I don't think Contra has really fleshed out a character bit since Tiffany Tumbles) TBH I don't watch these feature-film length videos anymore or contribute cause Natalie's current work compares so unfavorably to Contrapoints circa 2016-17.

Thoughts on the symbolism so far from the teaser? I am still going through it and analyzing.

Green/Envy - original title was Justice 2? So that's thought to be a comment on Tube copying Natalie maybe?
The Eyes? A witch's cauldron and apple? A French Guillotine? A winding staircase leading down?
There's a flash of what looks like medieval religious iconography.

So far, I'm not seeing how this video took 6 months or so to make. Lots of sameface too. The hairline looks better though.

It might be kind of boring to have the same sets dragging on for two hours, or however long this deal is going to be. With most films, you have alternating shots at differing angles, more action, changes in lighting, character interacting etc., that would normally break up the monotony of limited studio space (e.g. films like Eraserhead). But with Contra just sitting there like she usually does, the aesthetics of each scene could be initially interesting, but will most likely lose their luster rather quickly if certain shots linger on for too long. Usually, if a video is like, you know, twenty or so minutes, then having it all scripted and set up the way it usually is isn't that big of a problem. But for multiple hours? With just her sitting there and prattling on? Idk man.

Granted, there will probably be intertitles, and b-roll shot and all of that, but we'll see how much the editing will keep the themes AND the audience focused.

Like all eCelebs, Contra's big break into the mainstream was just exploitation for something specific at the time. Contra exhaused all his utility with one profile.
