People are talking about this like its the end, but really it isn't.
Even if Chris goes to jail he is unlikely to die there. This story will continue for decades, it only ever really ends when Chris dies.
If this was a movie, this is where the credits might roll, arc complete, lesson learned, closure. But this isn't a movie, its real life. The real existential horror comes from realizing that we aren't going to be saved here by an endcard, no "that's all folks!", we will bear witness to the long and painful consequences of Chris' decisions for decades hence. For those who have been following Chris for a decade, there will be no closure from this, the show will go on no matter how much we might wish this was just another movie or book coming to a controlled conclusion.
