Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I don't see most places actually enforcing this new autistic NYC passport mandate, honestly, at least not for long.
NYC is such a varied place, which is easy to forget. Visited Brooklyn not that long ago, and it was obvious how different groups living within blocks of each other had totally different behaviours. In hipster Williamsburg, everyone looks like a millennial who dresses like it's still 2004 and wore masks outside. In Jewish Williamsburg, I didn't see a single person wearing a mask. In the more ethnic areas (soon to be gentrified) of Brooklyn, it was a mixed bag.

Still, it was hilarious walking into a bodega with a NY state regulatory sign saying "No mask, no service" and the owner is sitting there without a mask. Or walking maskless into a bagel place where everyone has masks (according to the law being advertised on their windows), and nobody says anything.

Who obeys the government is going to be extremely varied in a place like NYC, and in the end even the young professional shitlibs in Manhattan and Brooklyn are only going by to get by. They might wear a mask when walking into a restaurant, but they're more than fine sharing cocaine straws with each other later that night.

they're not even trying to hide it at this point:

substantially more freedom

imagine seeing these kinds of headlines in March 2020. you don't have to be a conspiracy sperg to get alarmed by this shit.

3) It would be political suicide, not just on an individual level but for entire parties, to admit to a fuck up on this scale. No one can admit that they ruined lives, destroyed businesses, and indirectly killed more people than the virus was ever going to because they overreacted to a bad case of the sniffles. They can never admit that any one of these measures was a bad idea in hindsight, under any circumstances, so they have to keep going. They have to meet their vaccination targets, and they have to act like it's working, because otherwise this would all be for nothing. And if you think people are unhappy now, wait until they find out it's all been for nothing.

I think something else they can’t admit is that because they were funding gain of function research over there, when China refused to provide any information, they assumed that the nastiest bioweapon they were developing might’ve escaped. Remember how they were convinced at first it was spread by contact and masks were useless? I think the real nasty one is like that.

And when the riots happen, will they go to the homes and workplaces of the ones that make these rules? Nope. They'll go burn down a 7-11, rob a shoe store and break some old grandma's front window and call it a day.

Those places are going to packed with police and private securities with "shoot to kill" orders. So they obviously will go after people who can barely pay rent.

The amazing thing about the last 16 months is that because of "emergency powers", the CDC was just given complete control of both housing AND immigration in this country. In addition, even with ZERO increase in deaths, now with one word everyone (at least in blue states) has to wear masks again and cities are beginning to unofficially make vaccine passports mandatory.

There are NO checks and balances in place for this? Nobody elected this assholes, yet they run the entire fucking country now.

The latest bullshit from the county I live in. Building up to another mask mandate, just like the fucking Bay Area.

BREAKING NEWS FROM THE CARMEL PINE CONE

August 3, 2021, 5:08 p.m.

MONTAGE JOINS LIST OF COMPANIES REQUIRING EMPLOYEES BE VACCINATED

Dear Readers,

With coronavirus cases climbing among the 26 percent of Monterey County adults who are still unvaccinated, Steven Packer, president and CEO of Montage Health, Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula’s parent company, announced today that the company will require its employees and doctors to be fully vaccinated no later than Oct. 1.

“We are announcing a plan that honors our most important Guiding Principle: Patients come first,” Packer told employees in an email message. “Every employee throughout the Montage Health enterprise will need to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to remain employed. Full vaccination means you have received your second shot of Pfizer or Moderna, or your single dose of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine.”

All Montage Health employees, besides those with “strictly limited exceptions,” including medical and religious reasons, will need to be fully vaccinated by Oct. 1, Packer said.

Packer's announcement comes as mask mandates and vaccine requirements have spread to many parts of the country. The Monterey County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously July 30 to require all county employees to be vaccinated and many private offices and government buildings, including Carmel City Hall, are requiring masks, but no mask mandate has been ordered by county health department.

Meanwhile, new coronavirus infections continue to increase steadily in the county, with 255 new infections reported over the last week: 97 in the Monterey Peninsula, 98 in the Salinas area, 60 in the Salinas Valley and seven in North County. The Peninsula's 97 cases give it the highest rate of new infections in the county over the last week, with 75 of the Peninsula's cases occurring in Marina, Seaside and Monterey.

Companies in the UK are giving discounts to vaccinated customers (read: higher prices to the unvaccinated) in order to get more young people vaccinated.

Discounted meals and cheaper cab rides will be offered to customers who get a Covid-19 jab, as part of a government-led attempt to boost the uptake of vaccines.

Uber, Bolt, Deliveroo and Pizza Pilgrims are among the brands that will offer incentives to encourage young people to get vaccinated.

Almost 3 million under-30s are yet to receive a first COVID vaccine dose.

"It really is, for us, just the right thing to do", Gavin Smith, director at Pizza Pilgrims, told Sky News.

The London-based restaurant chain is hoping to convert two sites into pop-up vaccination centres, where unprotected customers will receive a free slice of pizza if they get a jab.

"If that is the difference for somebody, who is tight on time, to come and get their jab, then we're happy to give them a slice of pizza when they've had their jab", Mr Smith said, revealing that 70% of his staff who are younger than 26 are yet to be fully vaccinated.

"This is to encourage as many of our young employees, as much as the general population, to get their jab", he said.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said taxi app firm Uber will be sending reminders to all users in August encouraging them to get jabbed.

The company will offer discounted journeys for young adults who receive a vaccine, as well as cheaper meals on its food delivery platform, Uber Eats.

Bolt, another ride-hailing app, will offer "free ride credit" to vaccination centres following a similar scheme earlier this year when it offered £250,000 worth of free rides to London vaccination facilities.

Deliveroo will give vouchers to young people who get jabbed.

A spokesman said: "We want to do our small part to support the NHS during the pandemic, including delivering a million free meals to frontline NHS staff and vaccine centres. This is the next step in helping people get vaccinated and safely back to normal."

Health Secretary Sajid Javid urged people to "take advantage of the discounts" and thanked the businesses involved for "stepping up".

Vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi said there was "strong enthusiasm" among young people so far to get vaccinated, adding: "Please get your jabs as soon as you can and grab a bargain."

But some scientists fear the scheme could backfire due to confusing government messaging.

The positive incentives follow suggestions from ministers that university students may need to be fully vaccinated against coronavirus to attend lectures.

"I think you could easily alienate people" Professor Lawrence Young, a specialist in viral oncology at Warwick Medical School, told Sky News.

"What we've got to do, I think, is have much better messaging to younger folk about the benefits of vaccination for them personally and the people around them.

"What I don't understand is why aren't we being more proactive with social media and with the various celebrities that the 18 to 30-year-olds will perhaps respond to better"

DHSC said further details on partnerships will be released "in due course" and other incentives "could include vouchers or discount codes for people attending pop-up vaccine sites and booking though the NHS, social media competitions and promotional offers for restaurants".

The government added: "Companies will not ask for or hold any health data for the incentive scheme."

Does anyone from Australia can tell ne what the fuck is going on there? I have heard of police choppers flying over crowd yelling on people to get back to houses and army guys forcing healthy to go to hospital (and force jab them?)

Listen to that voice, he's mentally ill. He also apparently made comments to the cops the suggest he needs mental health check. We don't know what he said.

Just another video of a dickhead(s) being falsely labelled as covid related when it's not.

Also cops, not the army.

does this mean it's double-plus bad?

I am going to say the say thing i said about DELTA.

If its more transmissible and less lethal than let it the fuck go. pack planes full of people and send this everywhere and let this innoculate the world.

If you do it within a 60 day window the pandemic ends. The delta lineage has a key mutation that gives immunity to all other SARS2 variants in the field right now
