Brainless entertainment's fun. I like to watch and read all sorts of slop, from goofy YT videos to actually reading and enjoying fanfics. It's fine to enjoy junk entertainment and we're probably all guilty of it.

But Bob is hideously insecure about his clearly lacking intellect. He knows he's a crayon eating retard who can only stare blankly at curtains or steal what others say and repeat them like he came up with the take. So he has to elevate the few things he can barely understand beyond that because he wants to fit the delusional mental image he has of himself.

You and I can sit down and legitimately enjoy MCU stuff as explosions and quips the movie. Toho movies are "Obscure", Toho is one of the biggest producers in the world, has made some good stuff but also shit that pander to the Japanese lowest common denominator.
But due to complications of importing in the past, a lot of their inmense catalogue it's hard to get unless it was a really big hit, and as these become more known in the west, I guess there's a sense of hipster like entitlement of "You only realizing these are fun now? I've been seeing Toho Movies since the 80s". And god knows Bob has to hang on to any sense of entitlement he can.
Toku stuff is mostly for kids, but they usually tackle issues that you don't see in western kid's show, which personally I think says more about western kid's media.
It is common for authors to tackle complex themes with fiction where it's easier to understand, but these dumbasses watch Super Sentai and think it's Tolkien and makes them think they have 200IQ.

The types of auteur that Robert knows are pretty much the same ones everybody knows, the artists that became the mainstream counterpart of popcorn filmaking, even if they are sorta the popcorn movies of the arthouse world, as in, they have budgets and proper distribution, and Lars Von Tier is pretty much a popcorn "artiste".

When Covid struck, he went on and on about how the hospitals would be overcrowded with patients, so Trump sent a navy hospital ship to New York City Harbor. Rather than use it (and give the Orange Man a win), he stuffed Covid patients in nursing homes.

Let me say it again, and a little more clearly. He took people infected with an infectious disease that disproportionately kills the elderly, and placed them in close proximity to the elderly. All to avoid giving the Orange Man a win by using the aid he provided. This would result, unsurprisingly, in many elderly people dying (my conspiracy theory side thinks this was deliberate to drive up the number of Covid deaths to hurt the Orange Man). He then tried to cover the evidence, botched the cover-up, and then the media buried the story- and his aides would admit that they covered it up to avoid Federal scrutiny.

The cherry on top? He received a fucking Emmy Award for his Covid press briefings. So not only did he get away with it, he was rewarded.

Tammany Hall has nothing on Cuomo.
