Couch PC Gaming - Too lazy to sit at a desk when I game

I end up using a controller every time. I have tried to use KB&M from my couch but it always feels off. I know people that use TV trays or other similar pieces of furniture to simulate a desk on the couch but it always looks like more trouble then its worth.

I use a wireless logitech keyboard with built-in trackpad to browse the internet, but it's only barely able to play turn-based games like Civ or WH40k:Mechanicus.

Roccat makes a lap concoction with mouse and keyboard, but i always get annoyed. Its just lacks the definition as it just rests on your legs.

I tried wireless keyboard, but I think my couch was out of range of the system. So I bought a sweet monitor and went back to the desk.

Steam in Big Picture mode works well enough for a lot of newer games, though you always need to keep one of those keyboard/trackpad combos handy. Too many PC games have retarded situations where you need to click like one button to dismiss an error or you need to alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del because the game is frozen and your entire computer's locked up due to that.

The steam controller is actually good enough to play FPS casually. Maybe find one used?

honestly I'm more a standing desk guy
if I'm couchlocked then I'm not really into anything as active as gaming

for some games I even use a pad at the desk, like 3rd person stuff.

once you get used to it any current pad works for fps. sure it's not mouse+keyboard, but with some adaption it's more than fine. which is usually the biggest issue, some games where I used gamepad forever just feels off otherwise even for me.
wouldn't try it for competitive multiplayer tho for obvious reasons (although depending on the game and your personal skill even that can work).
