That is a possibility. I think he felt trapped living in the house with Barb. He was shut in and never saw anyone socially because he had to take care of Barb. He had no schedule of his own. Everything was dependent on how good Barb was doing that day. Now he has a regimented life that is exactly the same every single day, with the same things happening at the same times. He's surrounded by people all the time. He can chat with the guards like teachers, and fellow prisoners like students. As long as he doesn't piss the wrong person off, this could be a good life for him. A prison is a lot like a shopping mall.
