I see. It's a little different in most anabaptist communities, in that, for the victim, if it can be forgotten, it effectively never happened. The transgressor has to be punished, but that's another matter and for the safety of the community. If it results in something like pregnancy, it quickly becomes a nightmare in a modern setting, but I'd argue less so than publicizing the victim.

Edit: Keep in mind, Gothard is almost a cult figure and hardly a godly or simple man. He is a fantastic example of what someone who wants simplicity and to devote themselves wholly to the Lord should avoid. Gothard believes in controlling use of media/electronics for the family unit, but not for the head himself. This is pretty dangerous thinking, for obvious reasons.

I think you might be giving these people too much credit as religious folk with values. The Independent Fundamentalist Baptist beliefs are so commingled with the personal views of flawed humans, it's difficult to know where their faith stops and idol worship starts. For instance, the duggar females wear their hair curly or wavy. Nothing to do with biblical beliefs on their hair (yes, that explains the length), but because Bill Gothard believed that curls/waves were the most appealing hairstyle for women, and published tracts on it, so Gothardites wear (or wore) their hair curly/wavy.

eta: I doubt the rods are interested in Anna and Josh now, especially since the family can't minister to josh with their terrible singing, since josh isn't allowed to be near children other than his own. My guess is that the rods attended/will attend duggar church in hopes of getting one of their kids promised to a duggar or duggar-adjacent. Yeah, he was the weirdo behind all those awful home perms all the IBLP women used to have before they upgraded to curling irons after he passed. He had some... very specific instructions on hair, makeup, clothing, weight, and shoes that just so happened to jive with what he perved on the hardest.

That "Above Rubies" publication was considered mandatory reading for girls, and only the more slender, curled-haired, godly made-up young girls were photographed for it. It's been reported that it gave eating disorders to girls from families where food wasn't restricted in the JillRod way.
