I'll interrupt the tard diversion to share some more information about the legal structure Chris will be dealing with in the coming months.
The 16th Judicial District of Virginia covers six sparsely populated rural counties, two more active suburban counties, and the City of Charlottesville. All judges serve across the district in a rotation, which is why Greene County court isn't open every day. They also share the responsibilities of the Presiding Judge, with each exercising the PR office in different jurisdictions. Judge Barredo, who oversaw the arraignment today, is the Presiding Judge for Juvenile and Domestic Relations court in Greene. He will either oversee the trial, if there is one, or be responsible for selecting which of the
other five JDR judges in the circuit will do so. This will probably be determined almost entirely by whether there are any other lengthy trials going on in the district and who is already committed to them if so.
Barredo is a former prosecutor who specialized in gang crimes and is also heavily involved in the child advocate program. He has been a judge since 2014 and was reappointed in 2020. He rarely appears in the news despite being a longtime prosecutor and judge, which probably means he doesn't issue a lot of wacky, attention-grabbing rulings and keeps his courtroom under control and within the bounds of established law.

Barredo was born in the Philippines and moved to Charlottesville when he was 13. His parents were missionaries and moved when it became unsafe for them to live in the Philippines.
"Whenever you have anything to do with the United States in the Philippines, you are a target for kidnapping," he said. "So it was deemed a little bit of a risk for us to remain (there). So the mission's agency invited us to come to the U.S."
Barredo has never been back.
When he turned 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves and later became a naturalized American citizen.
From 1996 to 2000, he traveled between Culpeper and Charlottesville every weekend serving as an administrative specialist with the 3rd Battalion/ 317th Regiment of the 4th Brigade, 80th Division.
Barredo obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and graduated from law school at Regent University in Virginia Beach.
Between the military background, his work as a prosecutor, and his various ties to evangelical Christianity (his biography and attending Regent, which is an extremely Christian school), it is safe to assume that he is of the conservative persuasion and that he will not look kindly on most of Chris's identity-based shenanigans or on the family values aspect of raping one's own mother. As a UVa alum he probably also won't like hearing about Chris hanging out on the grounds there trying to harass women.
Barredo is just 4 years older than Chris, had to settle in Virginia as basically a refugee, and ended up graduating from a prestigious school and then becoming a judge. What a contrast to Chris squandering every opportunity in his life.
