Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

If Trump returns back in 2024, make Mike Flynn the secretary of defense.

And Cocaine Mitch must be thankful that Pelosi is around otherwise he probably has a higher chance of being booted out in the GOP primary than Pelosi on the Democrat side.
nah. the republicans that run against him are nobodies so he always gets 70-80% of the vote in the primary. And he cant really lose to the democrats because they always run retarded socialists from Louisville. Last time around amy McGrath (D) never even said that she was a dem in any campaign advertising at all. her whole speil was "I WUZ A MARINE!!!!1" she ended up losing by 20 points.
closest that anyone came to primarying McConnell was Matt bevin in 2014 before he became governor. he lost by like 30 points in the primary.
Mitch is entrenched

All this puppet theater is getting so banal, predictable and just plain ridiculous.

What's next? Giving an honorary purple heart to Stormi Daniels?

I was going to make a joke about him awarding her the Medal of Honor, but you do have to be a member of the army to qualify. In addition, searching for "Medal of Honor requirements" threw up the system requirements for running the game of the same name before anything else, so thank you, Google.

I should have brought this up sooner. Should we demand that lolwut provide information about these ranchers? Should we dox them and provide their information to the FBI and the DHS?
Do you think we're law enforcement? Because we're not.
It's weird, because here we have somebody providing evidence that it's "extremely tempting" for people to launch attacks on migrants on American soil, and I'm going to guess that those statements were made with a straight face.
Is our disregarding this naive at best, feigning ignorance at worst? How did this fly under the radar during this discussion?
Are you autistic? Serious question because this is an incredibly spastic reaction to what I said. At any rate, I'm sure you'd feel exactly the same about someone saying they wish for millions of jews to die, right? Just blowing off steam and all that.
This is less me saying "we should do something about this" and more me emphasizing that there's a reason most people don't do something about it. I wanted to clarify that quickly! I think you're fine, lolwut.
That paragraph was spastic as fuck is what it was.

Because they played themselves. The short version, going by the numbers, the majority of Democrat base voters bought into the idea that Covid was the next Bubonic Plague. Due to a series of poor choices, the Democrat establishment's grip on their voters is getting more and more tumultuous, a big shock would be enough to fracture off entire chunks of the vote.

Admitting Covid is a 'nothingburger' would be just such a shock.

They literally -can't- do the biggest windfall possible to them politically, because their sheer fear porn, fear-mongering, wall-to-wall coverage worked too well on their own base. In their big effort to undermine Trump, they set up a situation where they cannot win. Again.
Yep, you wouldn't believe how upset my friends were when the CDC said you didn't have to wear a mask if you were vaccinated a few months ago. They felt betrayed. And now the CDC is trying to reassure them and make everyone mask up again, even though the data is even worse than before on whether they do anything.

This is kind of the scary part to me, though I applaud Tennessee for making it an issue. The administration and CDC have no legitimacy, and this is without anyone relitigating the election in full. They have lost all legitimacy just from the sheer dictatorial pose of the bureaucrats, from their own actions. School districts, small towns, businesses all went along at first but slowly looked around eventually last year and decided to reopen because they saw how bad the side effects were, not just on the economy but on the people. So these people who finally said "to hell with this" asserted power that no one else wanted to seize because of cowardice and not wanting to be the person stuck with the blame. The red states made a decision and stuck with it, and they are not going to just bend the knee again without daring the administration to fight back. Every time someone issues a mandate, the first question is not, "How long?" It's "OR WHAT?"

Scary times. I could see a legit constitutional crisis arising from this.

I think this is a fair point to respond to seriously. I consider this kind of venting more silly than dangerous or offensive and don't really worry about it. If it was more plausible that the person speaking could act upon said desires, then I'd be more concerned.

110%. I have no doubt that we're going to get an announcement soon that their information about breakthrough cases was outdated or something and that we absolutely need to mask up because we've all been killing each other for months or some shit.

The only thing I hope is that the Supreme Court ends this kind of authority decisively, no more periods of confusion or letting things lapse without acting, and that's the end of it. I'm upset to think about the millions of people who are being affected and will be potentially devastated when the moratorium expires. But it's not up to the executive branch to unilaterally decide to extend it. That's just not how the law works.

In 2020, McConnell defeated McGarth by 24 points, thanks to Trump's (low-key unfortunate) endorsement. Kentucky's blood red unless your last name is Beshear, but I could recall seeing McGarth with +1 in a poll (lol). Who knows if Mitch asked Blumpf if he got scared.

I recall Mitch not being terribly popular in some polls leading up to 2020 and then overperforming considerably. Could be fucky, or could be that people just held their nose and voted for Mitch when the time came.
McConnel isn't -popular- in his state, but he is 'their guy'. Kentucky politics is often a case where you don't actually need to be well-liked personally, they just have to like that you can do your job. It's something neither the Democrats or actual RINOs (I'll get back to this) fundamentally get, so every time they try to take out McConnel they are going for a popularity contest where as McConnel's message is "I do my job" which resonates better.

To my RINO comment. McConnel isn't a RINO. The dude fundamentally doesn't care about individual politics. He, like Pelosi, has realized that he is happy to be king shit of shit mountain. Unlike Pelosi, McConnel views it as some sort of sacred duty to be the absolute avatar of the Senate whereas Pelosi views it as her throne to use. The reason everyone sees McConnel as a RINO is because his politics will go whichever way the Republican Senate blows, which has been RINOs by and large. You can see him being rather malleable in that he actually worked pretty well with Trump, only really counteracting him when Trump was blundering around due to his lack of political experience.

Honestly, whether you love Senator McConnell or hate him, he's inarguably extremely good at his job and deserves to be listed among the most influential Senators of all time. I can imagine getting rid of somebody like that would be an extremely hard sell when it comes time to replace him. And his competition was... a Democrat who wanted to support Trump. I mean, what the hell even is that?

I personally find him suspect due to his wife's family owning a huge Pacific shipping company that makes tens of millions each year by shipping Chinese shit to US shores.
Hmm. Related to that, what's finally making some companies rethink Chinese factories is the current shipping delays.

https://apnews.com/article/joe-bide...global-trade-a8992e7141013f0164d04476d637f0c5

"52% of the U.S. manufacturing executives surveyed by the consulting firm Kearney said they have started buying more supplies in the United States in response to COVID-related supply disruptions. Forty-seven percent said they plan to reduce reliance on supplies or factories from a single country; 41% specifically said they wanted to cut their dependence on China."

Should be way higher, but it's something.

To be fair, this is a two-way street. The company also ships mind-boggling amounts of raw resources to China to get them made into that cheap Chinese shit. So its money forward, money back. Now it does raise some questions about McConnell's willingness to go against China.

This feels like the equivalent of being asked to leave a funeral mid-service.

Being adjacent to Kentucky, Mitch also always runs close races, crushing McGrath is the outlier. Her ads actually made me angry with the obvious pandering bullshit. Same with Beshear, Andy may have taken one too many tumbles onto his head off the hay wagon, but he's Kentucky and Bevin wasn't. Also, Bevin went too hard and too nasty against the teachers unions, even if he was right.

You don't have to like Mitch, but he is very good at his job.

Could be worse, could be Ohio. My up coming Senate choice is a man who cost us beating Sherrod Brown vs likely grifting author.

Though isn't really impeachable. Especially since it's not -actually- going against a court ruling. The court, or more specifically Kavanaugh, made it clear they WOULD rule it unconstitutional, but there is no actual ruling saying it IS. The ruling let the moratorium stand until it fell normally but noted the CDC overextended its authority. This note is not legally binding though, and largely the decision was a way for the court to let the admin avoid a bad political loss while going "Alright, but don't do it again." and then assuming, normally rightfully, an admin -can't- be stupid enough to do that again.
The quote left the implication that Biden's philosophy is "the only people who can tell the executive branch 'no' is the Supreme Court." That he is only accountable to 9 people in the judicial branch. At the top of the chain no less.

So yes, while *this* particular case isn't dangerous it is worrisome if he does get more bold in the future with executive orders.

I know that there are lots of reasons on why it would be a bad idea but desperation may just push him to it.
