I am sorry but it seems like you like to abandon logic, like covering up a crime. is chris mentally ill? yes, but he isn't mentally ill enough to understand that fucking your own mother is frowned upon in society, hence why he obscured the fact he was fucking barb by feeding null a bs story about being involved with an older woman, also attempting to lie when he stole money. Mental illness isn't a crutch to excuse or explain away behavior, and even if chris was living in his merge la la land, the fact he tried to lie with barb and the money he stole, doesn't indicate insane enough to know his ass from a hole in the ground.

I agree - mentioned it before but vets would be questioning how a dog in such a poor condition came to be in possession of someone as no shelter would rehome them like that, there would be alarm bells ringing and the whole thing just sounds far-fetched
